Warfeew, May ?; This, which was the day fixed for the
•pening of the diet, has happily parted without any ads of
violence. We are obliged for it to the wife precautions of
the Primate, the Grand General of the crown, and several
Senators and officers, who being animated by a love for their
country, have had nothing else m view but the advancement
of the publick good. It must be Confeffed also, that the
presence of the Ruffian troops ha* not a little contributed to
Divine service being performed, the Prince Primate
repaired to the castle, and naving taken his feat with fcve
jal of the nobility in the senate hall, authorized the Count
de Malachowlki, Marshal of the preceding diet, to open the

german to Count Poniatowfky. The new Marshal having
jfcaken the oath, fixed the fcffion for the day after to-morrow,
after which the affcmbly separated in peace.
Melogm, May 9. The Duke of York, who arrived here
on the £th, in order to ten whatever is mod remarkable in
this city, tets out to-day for Parma.
Our letters from Genoa bring, that the senate of that city
has returned an answer to the conditions of France for the
fending a body of troops to Corsica; and those from An
tibes, a maritime town of Provence, that they are afferabling
there 20 battalions to pass over into the feid isle.

Kim not any way given occasion for their arrival.— 3. The
Kitffiaa* have committed an aSE of violence in Lithuania, by
favouring a pernicious confederacy made for disturbing the
publick tranquility.— 4. It ie against all justice, that in the
memorial of the Ruffian minister, delivered to the Primate
the 4th inf}, the troops of the crown are accufcd of having
meddled in the diednes and’ other publick ads.—j. If is by
the uni uft proceedings of the fome foreign troops, that the

H'arfanu, May 12. The second session of the diet of con
vocation was held on the 9th, and parted peaceably. Those
who appeared there repaired thither without being escorted
by any of the military gentry. Care, however, was taken,
according to custom, to place in the castle, besides the crown
guard which is always there, another detachment of troops
foiled the honorary guard. This detachment was polled be
tween the senate room and that of the nuncios. 1; was drawn
from the guard of the Grand Marshal of Lithuania, the
Grand Marshal of the crown, who had signed the manifefto

‘Parma, May it: The Duke of York being arrived here,
the Infant Don Philip, our sovereign, received him with
all the marks of diftinaioh due to his nigh birth; and we fee
every day nothing but fcafts and diversions both here and at
the delightful feat of Celerno.
Genoa , May 12. The malecoAtents of Corsica are every
day making new progrefles. They block up our garrifans,
and cut off their provisions. They have lately also taken
from us the towef of Paludella, so that we have now only
two remaining on the whole iflu.

ing flroke to this treaty. ...

in his expences, and the Extratrdiuary , which will

Paris, May 1 6. Our marine, it seems, is already restored
to such a point as to occasion jealousy in the English. And
it is not only our marine that becomes refpedable; for our
finances are increased in such a manner, that there has not
been so much money these 15 years in the King’s coffers.
May 18. The duputes for and against the practice of in
oculation for the froallpox still continue in all their force.
It even seems as if this question would not be soon, and per
htps never may be,* decided by the authority of parliament.
In the mean time this operation continues to gain favour,
2nd several persons of diilindtion have availed themselves of
it with fuccefc. Among others are Madam and Mifo dc La*
