&-koyal, Jamaica, 03. 13. Last Monday night as the
biat belonging to Port Royal. was lying at an anchor
at 4 me Folly, Bear the east endV thU island, a
fmalHchooncßboat came along-fide and boarded her j there
■m eight negroes in th§ pilot*bo*t, but holy one aprake,
whom they fodn fecurcd? after which they went off in the
pilot-boat, and left their own behind. These pirates were
nVe in number, two Frenchmen, two mala:toes and a negro,
Che mulaftoes are natives of Antigua, one of them well known
at Port-Royal, and has failed out of this place ; hi* name is
Jpfeph Thomas. They were, armed with mnfquets, and
enquired after another pilot-boat that was out, and said they
were going to Cuba j they, permitted one of the pilot nc T
groes (who fignified a disinclination to go with them) to go
afopre in a canoe, who gives this Account of them.
We hear th?.. Droid upop of war, commanded by Capt.
Burnaby tails this morning in search of those pirates, and to
cruise for-the protedfon of thp trade going through the wind
ward passage; as it is very probable ahey may attempt to
tfarpfifo fome vefiel under pretence of being the pilot-boat. ’
A schooner with a Uentenant and upwards of twenty men*
£om the iquadron, was to fail last night in queftjof them, and
to capiat every placton the island of Cuba where there may

certainly improper. • ‘*“ ♦
The Intent and spirit of the union (without entering into
-a difenffion of the generally received opinion that Scotland
,was rather more benefited by it than England) doubtless was
meantbxbtfty in oblivioU the diftindlion of Englilhmen and
Scotsmen ; and the name-of Briton, as it was to be general
to both nations, so it was thought would inculcate in.every
breast an ondiftinguifhing-and impartial lovefor every part
of Britain : If these generous views have been defeated Sco
to-Britannico-Americanus plainly and honestly accounts for
it, as he confcfles that he loves Scotland better than Eng
land; and Os courfea Scotchman better'than an Englifoman;
and lifom his alTertion that every'man ought to have an e
qual prejudice, with himfelf, for his country, I must fuppofc
he would have it believed he speaks the sentiments of all his
countrymen, yet I cannot but hope there are many natives
of Fforth-Britain of more benevolent and generous mind*.
I, Mr. Printer, own mylelf an Englilhman, truly difpof
■ed to *n unlimited regard for Britain and Britons in general,
and free from preju&ce towards any Scotchman whatever*
