Towards ten o’clock they were traced by the noise and

preserved by amiUtary watch, which we hope in time will
have a tendency to allay the present strange and tumultuous
spirit.
The town, haring an utter detestation of the extraordinary
and violent proceedings of a number of persons unknown,
against fome of the inhabitants Os the fame, it was voted vzr
ammoujly, at a meeting of the freeholders lase Tuesday, that
theft left men and magistrates of the town be desired to ufc
their utmost endeavours to lafi to suppress the like
disorders for the future, and that the freeholders and other
inhabitants will do every thing in their power to assist them
therein.
Several persons were last week taken up and committed to
goal for being aiding and assisting in the outrages committed
i& this town on Monday night last; and ’us (aid, fome fur

We have a report from Virginia, that upon the arrival of
the Stamp-Master there, k feie gentlemen of che place in
vited hipi to a ball at night, and treated him with the utmost
politeness, but after it was over, they informed him bis bag
gage was put on board another vefiei which was to fail for
London the next morning, and advised him to take paflage
iu her without deity, as his life would be in danger if he

with, and went off immediately.

Lebanon in Connedieutt Aug . 27. Yesterday was held ia
this town a special court for the trial of a certain criminal#
late Ag---t for this colony: He made his appearance at the
bar of laid court, in the person of his VIRTUAL represen
tative, and was denied none of those just RIGHTS of Eng
lilhmen, being allowed the sacred privileges of a trial by hit
