as what 1 have said is perhaps not much known, I make thh
declaration to you; That I have no warrant, order or Au

as to undertake a bufmefs to which I have no aopointmentj
and make mys If answerable for large sums ot money, the
receipt ot which 1 cannot attend to, and have no powef tp
diredl or order< What I have done in pursuance of your ad
vice, in ordering the (lamped papers to be deposited in the
eaftle, and thereto be defended with all the force of that
fortreis, was to pteferve them intire and unpacked for hii
Majelly’s use. in this I have had two things in view* bj
prevent imprudent people committing an high insult upou
the king, an indignity which would be sure to meet wftli
particular resentment; and to save the town, or province,
as it may happen, for being made answerable for 10 great a
sum as the value of the (lamped papers will amount tb; &
they certainly will be, if the ilamped papers should be Ukeit
away. In providing against thele two evils, surely we ait

think. .
