w- w AVING just received ftom the Right Honourable Mr. Secre
tary Conway, the copy of a law lately pa fled for repealing an
■ ■■ ad, made last year by the firitifh parliament, for granting
certain tamp duties in America, I am pleased to hive foear
ly an opportunity, as your prefeht meeting affords, of con.
gratulating you on an event so truly joyful, and which 1 Jy>pe will be
jyodu&ive of the mod happy consequences to this and all the other colo
nies.
By the Secretary of date's letter, which I have ordered to he laid before
the house, yon will likewifo have the fatisfaftinn to find, that betides the
rqieal of the Ramp-aft, our gracious Sovereign, and bis parliament, are
fliH extending their goodpefs farther, and propofis to give every relief to
the*#ade of America, which and circumstances require.
Diftinguilhed by such ftgnal wftances of paternal regard from bis Ma
jolly, and such indulgence from his parliament, I need not mention to
you'Gentlemen, the conduft yoa ooght to prfue: I know your own
hearts will lead yod, in return, to every aft of duty, and expression of
gratitude, which a loyal on so happyeui occasion.

tation, imported into any Britiih colony or plantation lin America, do

Resolved, That it is the opinion of this committee, that the duties im*
posed in the Britiih colonies and plantations in America by tke And ad,
made in the fourth year of his present Majesty’s reign, upon foreign li
nen cloth, c&lled cam brick, and upoo Flench lawns imported from Gfrjute
Britain, do Ceafo aud determine. •
Resolved, That it is the opinion of this committee, that a duty be
laid upon all such foreign linen cloth cal'ed cambrick, and opdn Kreatl
lawns, which foall be exported from this kingdom to the laid colonies and

Resolved, That it is the opinion of this committee, that a duty of so- *
ven (hillings, sterling money, per hundred weight avoirtfupoife, be laid
upoo all such coffee which ihall be imported into any such colony or plan
tation, except only such coiree as (hall upon the landing thereof be imme
diately deposited and fecurcd in warehotdes, in order to bt re-exported

Resolved; That it is the opinion of this dootauttel, that a duty of
one half-penny, sterling money, per pound weightavedrdupoife, be laid
upon all such piemento which (hall be imported into any such colony or
plantation, except only such piemenfi as foall upon the lattding thereof

paid upon such foreign sugars, coffee, or indieo, at (hall be imparted into
any Britiih colony or plantation on the continent of America, and. upon
the landing thereof be immediately difpofued and secured in warehoufei,

Resolved, That it is the (pinion of this committee, that cot
ton, wool, and indieo be permitted to be importeu by Br-tilh (hips, navi
gated according to law, into any Biptifh tfland ia that puftt of America
cdminonly called the Weft Indies, free from the paytneuf of any doty dr
other imposition whasfoever,
Resolved, Tidbit is the opinion of this committee, that the produce
of such of the said duties to be railed in the (aid colonies and plantations bte
paid-into the receipt of bis Majesty’s exchequer, and there referred to be
fro-n time to time di(pofed of by parliament, t iwards defraying the ne
ceflary expences of defending, protecting, and fecuriog the said colonies
and planuttons.’ * ~ #
Resolved, That it is the opinion of this committee, thatjt will be for
the advantage of the trade, navigation, atfd manufactures of this kingdom,
to eilablifo one or more port or ports in his Majesty’s dominions in Ame
rica, for the more free importation and exportation of certain goods and
merchandises, under prppcr regulations and rest iCtiooi.”
We hear, that Richard Burke, Esq. fccretaij to Lord Rockingham, k
yo tog gentleman of Ireland, with the moft foining talents that have ap
peared for a. long time, and a moft sanguine friend for the tntereft of A
roerica, exerted nimfelf nobly in bringing about the above resolves.
We hear, that between Kendeghook and Albany, there has lately been
difeovered, a mod valuable spring of water ifluiug out of a rock, of the
hot kind } the bathing with whi(*b, and drinking the fome, has already*
cured many disorders, and that great numbers of people afflicted with dif
ferent calamities retort thither daily*
By late letters from Fort Pitt, we have the vefy agreeable intelligence,
that Col. Crochan last month, held * treaty there with the ShaWanefc,
Delawares, foe. and happily renewed and confirmed the chain of friends
(hip with them. ,
We hear from New- Jersey, that abundance of damage has been done
there by the great rains which fell on Thursday night, Friday and Satur
day last. ft is (aid that the cloud from whence the heavy rains fell did
aot extend farther to (he N. than Bound Brook.—But in other pans, a
bout Spotfwood, Second Kivyr, foe. the floods there have been very grtat.
