*• Yon may probably nt dislike to hear how the brave CorScans, our
neighbours, go on in the defence of their ifUnd again ll the French. We
can tell you with pleafore, that they have defeated the latter in every ac
tion they have hitnerto had together, and, under the conduct of their great
and prudent General Faoli, they hope this winter to (hut them up close
in their garrisons, and aft on the ofFenfive. The French, between defer
tion and death, have 101 l upwards of 8000 m< n, besides a great number of
officers, the Corftcans taking off the latter in the beginning of all their
engagements, being extraordinary marksmen, and thereby c.ifily defeat
their adversaries. Our Court has been hitherto very quiet, having all
her attention upon the colonies, but considerable supplies of Britiih
money arc lent to Paoli for his supporting the war with vigour. The
King of Sardinia Itkewife peroiits his troops todefertandenlift under Paoli’s
colours, so that they are under no apprehension of the French, who will
cut a dismal figu-e in the hirtorv of the present tim s.'*
