Sn- Jo.eph Yorke, Ambassador from Great-Britain, has lately deli
vered a Memorial to the States General, complaining of their behaviour
on the coast ot Africa, in endeavouring to m -nopoiize the tobacco trade
in that country, to the prejudice of the Englifti, and demanding th it the
ncceffary orders may be sent to that country to put a flop to luch illicit
proceedings.
Bv a p?rticular relation of theaflion, which happened on the 9th ulf-.
between the I jrks ar.d the Ruffians, it appears to be one ot the hottest
almost ever k.iown. In the wood of Katchewfkoy, the Ruffians were twied
driven from behind two of their entrenchments, but rallied again, each
time, behind the third, and forced b.ck the enemy from all their cn*
trenchments in their turn. The whole atfion lasted from break o< day
till two in the afternoon ; and four regiments, who guarded the above
wood, are said to have tired more than one hundred rounds each.
Stcphano, the Montenegrin Chief, who lately made such a nose in the
Levant, and p ctvr.ded a title to the Ruffian Empire, is said to be the foa
of a French Phyficiin, whose profeffion he fallowed for fievcral years.
Lately died, Hannah Winter, a poor widow, at Black Hedley Port,
who was tapped 79 time’ fora droply since the beginning of the year

each time; which being fumined up, amounts to the amazing quantity
of 355 gallons and two quarts. For near two years in the latter parcoT
life, the was tapped once every fortnight,

A battering cannon has been lately invented by Mr. Cross, upon anew
principle, 2nd intended for the purpofe'of being fixed rear the wall of la
town : This cannon is to be od a level wiih the earth, and will soon batter
a breach in the walls, in spite of fifty thousand men; an enemy cstonot
dismount it, nor hurt any of the people belonging to ; and is as handy
to be worked as a swivel.
Yesterday morning were entered at the Cuftom-houfc, forty-five hog
