DEATH OF JOHN STAFFORD.
Mr. John Stafford is no more. He
moved among us but a few days ago*
Hut yesterday, as it were, he was a
powei with the Odd Fellow fraternity.
But consumption overtook him, and
being in meagre circumstanees, bo was
sent to Jacksonville, Fla., by tbe Odd
Fellow fraternity, where he died on
last Friday Was a week ago. His re
mains reached Atlanta last Sunday
His funeral was preached at Bethei
A. M. E. Church, to one of the largest
audiences that ever assembled In that
church. The funeral procession was
lengthy and was composed of every
class of our people. He leaves a moth
er and sister to mourn his loss. Star
of South, lodge of the G. U, Order of
OLI Fellows, to which he belonged,
will mies him as well es the genera
community. »
The Odd Fellows uf Jacksonville
immediately on bis death, prepared
the ix mains for transp citation, and
kindly bore the expenses of seeding
his remains and also the expenses of
his mother We extend thanks for
the Odd Fellows of Atlanta, for their
kindnees.
MK. MOSBS CALHOUN.
Mr. Moses Calhoun left the city
last Wednesday for Brunswick, where
be hue a large Interest in a thriving
fishery. It Is no little honor to the
colored people of Atlanta t • have a
colored citizen who has accumulated
the wealth he has, and who is still
showing that the Negro cando if he
wishes to. All the fine shad and iaige
catfish seen in front of Mr. Calhoun’s
store, come from his fishery. We urge
everybody that fervors the upbuilding
of a self -made man to patronize bim.

We wish him a pleasant journey.
