# 0 e t_r g The Wife. Happy he to whom kind heaven, Rich ingrare, a wife hath given, Virtuous, wise, and formed for love, Gentle, guileless as a dove. I.< t him I hank his God for this, Pure overflowing cup of bliss ; Pain may never linger near, With auch a friend to soothe and cheer. She, like moonlight, mild and fair. Smiles away each gloomy care— Kisscss dry man's secret tears, And with (lowers his path-way cheers. W hen his boiling heart heaves high, Plashing fire from out his eve, When kind friends seek in vain, Passions wild career to rein,— Then her gentle step is near ! Softly drops her soothing tear, As when evening dew comes down, On the meadow scorched and brown. Some have sought their bliss in gold ! Some for fume their peace have sold! Gold and glory in the hand, Grumble Hke a hall of sand. Ilenven sends man the faithful wife ! Life without her is not life ! And w hen life is o'er, her love ; Gilds a brighter scene above. Acrfcttltnral. Sugar Cane in Florida. Cnpt. Sailler of this vicinity has produ ced, considering the circnmstanccs under which it was grown, the most extraordin ary crop of sugar on record; and as tiie facts in regard to it, if generally known, may lie extensively beneficial to tlie country ut large, we shall proceed to enumerate < them as wc collected them from hirn. He has produced 251 hhds. of sugar averaging 1000 lbs. from 105 acres of cane, and has lost at least 50 hhds. by im pe:feet grinding—having wrought neatly his entire crop with two broken rollers, w hich would not admit of sufficient pres sure to extract the juice by 20 per cent.— Another source of loss occurred in cutting down from apprehension of frost about 00 acres of his best cane two months previous to grinding it. The juice s'ood at the re markable altitude of 12° of Team’s Sac charometer, and the sugar is consequently of very superior quali'y. The yield of molasses is about 15,000 gallons. The circumstances which render this crop extraordinary in this sugar clima e, aro, that it grew on some of our ordinary sandy hammock land, winch had been un der a continuous cultivation of com and cotton crops for a period of perhaps fifty years, and was literally worn out as regards these two objects of culture—being incapa ble of producing live bushels of corn or 50 lbs. of seed cotton per acre : and what ren ders this crop still more remarkable is the fact, that a large portion of this land has been five years consecutively in cane, without any diminution in the annua! pro duce under so severe a trial of its powers, and without the aid of a particle of ma nure. It is a matter of every ilay expei ience with us, that rich land in Florida—wheth er virgin hammock, or land made fertile bv the addition of manure—is eminently adopted to the production of sugar cane, but it remained for the enterprise and perseverence of Capt. S. to demonstrate to us tbe practicability of growing this des irable object of culture profitably on ex hausted old fields, five years in succession, not only without any diminution, but with a manifest improvement in the yield. This presents a strong practical argu ment in favor of a rotation of crops, and forcibly establishes the inherent but hith erto overlooked capabilities of out work lands on tbe River St. Johns, by proving that, however exhausted they may be by an unintermitting succession of corn and cotton crops, they strlV' tetain their pris tine vigor in relation t'O' sugar cane.— f Jacksonville News. THE ORIGINAL DISCOVERER OF THE Genuine Townsend Sarsaparilla. Old Dr. Townsend i» now nbnnt 70 yearn of Her, and has long boon known as the AUTHOR and DISCOVERER of the GENUINE ORIOLY.IL “ TOWNSEND SAR SATARIL/.A.' 1 Hein* poor, he was compelled to limit its ti)&nuf;ict«re, by which menus it has been kept out of mar ket, and the sales circumscribed to those only who had proved its worth, and known its value. It had reached the ears of many, nevertheless, as those persons who had been healed of sore diseases, and saved from death, pro claimed its excellence nnd wonderful HEALING POWER. Knowing, many yean ago, that he had, by his skill, science and cxpeiience, devised nn article which would lie of incalculable advantage to mankind when the means would be furnished to bring it into universal notice, when its inestimable virtues would be known and appreciated. This time has come, the means are supplied ; this GRAND AJYI) UNEQUALLED PREPARATION is manufactured on the largest scale, and is called for throughout the length and breadth of the land, especially as it is found inr:i|Nthle of degeneration nr deterioration. Unlike young S. I*. Townsend's, it improves with age. and never changes, but for the better: because it is prepared on tcirntijic principles by a scientific man. The highest knowl edge of Chemistry, and the latest discoveries of the art, have all laen brought into requisition in the manufacture of the Old Dr’s Sarsaparilla. The Sarsaparilla root.it is well known to medical men, contains many medicinal pro perties, and some properties which are inert or useless, and others, which if retimed in preparing it for use, produce fermentation and acid, which is injurious to the system Some of the pro|»erties of Sarsaparilla are so volatile . that they entirely evaporate and are lost in he preparation, if they are not preserved by a scientific process, known only to those experienced in its manufacture. Moreover, these volatile principles, which fly off in vapor, or as an exhala tion. under heal, are the very essential medical properties of the root, which give to it all its value. Any |»er»on can boil or stew the root till they get a flart colored liquid, which is more from the coloring matter in Ihe root than from any thing else; they can then strain this Insipid or vapid liquid, sweeten with sour molasses, md then call it •• SARSAPARILLA EXTRACT or SY RL T P.” Ihit sat h is not the article know n ns tbe GENUINE OLD DR. JACOB TOWNSEND’S SARSAPARILLA. This is so prepared, that all the inert properties of the Sarsaparilla root are first removed, every thing capable of becoming acid or of fermentation, is extracted and rejected ; then every particle of medical virtue is secured in a pure and concentrated form ; ami thus it is rendered incapable of losing any of its valuable and healing properties. Prepared in this way, it is made the most powerful agent in the Cure of innumerable diseases. Hence the reason why we hear commendations on every side In its favor by men, women, and children* Wc find it doing wonders in the cure of CONSUMPTION, DYSPEPSIA, and LIVER COM PLAINT, and in RHEUMATISM. It has not its equal In Colds and Coughs ; ami promotes easy expectoration and gentle perforation, relaxing stricture of the lungs, throat, and every other part. Is not this then The medicine you pre-eminently need ] Rut can any of these things be said of S. P. Townsend's Infer.or article? This young man’s liquid is not to be COMPARED WITH THE OLD DR'S, because of one (iRANIi PACT, that the oue is LNCAFA RLE of DETERIORATION, and NEVER SPOILS, while the other DoHrf ; souring, fermenting, and blowing the bottles containing it into fragments ; the sour, acid liquid exploding, and damaging other goods ! So of nervous diseases, of impurity of the bliM*d, m deranged circulations, and nearly all the ailments w hich attlict human nature. Now is it not horrible to make and sell, and infinitely worse to use this SOURING. FERMENTING, ACID “ COM POUND” OK S. P. TOWNSEND, ind yet be woulu fain have it understood that Old Dr. Jacob Townsend's Genuine Original Sarsaparilla, is an IMITA I’ION of his Inferior preparation !! Heaven forbid that wc should deal in an article which would bear the most distant resemblance to S. P. Town lend’s article! nnd which should bring down upon the Old Dr. such a mountain load of complaints and criminations from Agents who have sold, nnd purchasers who have used >. P. Townsend's FERMENTING COMPOUND. We wish it understood, because it is the absolute truth, that H. P. Townsend’s article and Old Dr. Jacob Town scad’s Sarsaparilla are heaven-wide apart, and infinitely dis timilar; that they are unlike in every particular, having uot one single thing in common. As S. P. Townsend is no doctor, nnd rover was. is no chemist, no pharmaceutist—knows no more of medicine or disease than any other common, unscientific, unprofessional man. w hat guarantee can the pubiic have that they are re ceiving a genuine scientific medicine, containing all the vulries of the articles used in preparing it. ami which are in capable of changes which might render them the AGENTS I of Disease instead of health. Rut what else should be exacted from one who know* nothing comparatively of medicine or disease ! It requires a person of some experience to cook and serve tip even a common decent meal. How much more ini|iortnnt is it that ihc persons w ho manufacture medicine, designed for WEAK STOMACHS AND ENFEEBLED SYSTEMS, should know well the medical properties of plants, the best manner of securing and concentrating their healing virtues, nDo an extensive knowledge of tho various diseases which affect the human system, aud how to adapt remediei to these diseases! It is to arrest frauds upon the unfortunate, to pour halm into wounded humanity, to kindle hope in the itespairing bosom, to restore health and bloom, and vigor into the r/u*lied and broken, and to banish infirmity that OLD DK. Ray, Editor Georgia Telegraph : Dear Sik : —While so many certificates of individuals living off at great distances are ap pearing in the papers commendatory of Bal sams, Syrups, Fills and Powders, I think it but right that medical research and superior success of some of our practitioners at home should be made known to our community, that those of our neighborhood who are afflicted may not on ly save their health but their money also, and at the same lime encourage the efforts of those who would give character and consequence tu this section of the Union. 1 have been led to these remarks by the teachings of my own expen. ence : About seven years ago I was attacked with a disease oftlie liver and lungs, accompanied with liceinorrliage or spitting of blood, with severe and most liarrassing and distressing cough, cold sweats of nights, with a wasting diarrhtcr, and a great part of the time confined to my bed, and so debilitated generally, that 1 could do hut lit tle in the way of business 1 thus continued for over five years, making every effort durin tliat time to regain my health. 1 first applied to lliepliyscians of Savannah, where I then resided but their efforts failed to relieve me. I then tried Houck’s Panacea for a long time then VVistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry,&c., till I had spent hundreds of dollars in their purchase, and still found myself as bad off ns before. I then applied to your townsman, Dr. M. S. Thomson who I am happy to say, after treating my case’ some G or 7 mouths, restored me to sound, and I believe to permanent health, for I am now and have been for tbe last 18 months in the enjoy ment of uninterrupted health. This is my ex perience, and 1 doubt not you w ill agree with me in the opinion, that I have good reasons for recommending the Doctor and his remedies in cases ol this kind, far above the most eminent physicians whose skill I hud tested, and the far famed and much boasted balsams and panaceas with which 1 had been dosed. Let others do likewise, if they would lie cured, and that they may not perish for lack of knowledge, 1 here by request that you will give publicity to n.y statement in your widely circulating sheet, and much oblige yours, respectfully, JOHN H. SMITH. The following letters arc given, not so much on account of the facts they contain, though tiicv are important, as to give alt idea or specimen of many of the same kind that are borne to tho subscriber by almost every Mail from the North, South, East and West. They were not intended for publication, nnd are therefore the more to be relied on, and appreciated. Benjamin Jones' Letter. Traveller's Rest, Dooly Cos. Ga. ) January JG, JBSO. S Dr. M. S.
