More of the \ Wonders resulting from the judicious use of BOTANIC MLDICIN£B. tplIE following communication appeared in | JL the last Georgia Telegraph, and uiuslbe re plete with interest to all similarly afflicted. Mr. Smith is a printer by profession, and is employ ed in that office—he relates his experience, which : after all is the best criterion by which to judge jof the value of remedies. Advertisements and high sounding statements may be set forth, and thus give an ephemeral character and existence 1 to remedies, which when judged hy this test, lose all their value, and become defunct; not so, j however, with those which have thus been test ed, and have passed through the ordeal ; for of i them, we state what has occurred, and from that deduce what may be expected. But to the com munication, it will speak for itself. 31 acos, Jan. 14,1850. : S'. J. Ray, Edtior Georgia Telegraph. De ar Sir :— While so many certificates of in- I dividuals living oft'at great distance are appear ing in the papers commendatory of Balsams, | Syrups, Pills and Powders, 1 think it hut right that medical research and superior success l of some of our practitioners at home should be | made known to our community, that those of | our neighborhood who are afflicted may not on. ! ly save their health but their money also, and at | the same time encourage the efforts of those who would give character and consequence to this section of the Union. I have been led to these j remarks by the teachings of my own experi 'ence : About seven years ago I was attacked with a disease of the liver and lungs, accompanied with hcemorrhage or spitting of blood, with severe and most harrassing and distressing cough, cold sweats of nights, with a wasting diarrher, and a great part of the time confined to my bed, and so debilitated generally, that 1 could do but lit tle in the way of business 1 thus continued for over five years, making every effort during that time to regain my health. 1 firstapplied to 1 thephyscians ofSuvannuh, where 1 then resided, i but their efforts failed to relieve me. I then tried Houck’s Panacea for a long time—then Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, See., till I had spent hundreds of dollars in their purchase, and still found myself as had oft’ as before. 1 then applied to your townsman, Dr. M. S. Thomson, who 1 am happy to say, after treating my case some 6 or 7 months, restored me to sound, and 1 believe to permanent health, for I am nowand have been for the last 18 months in the enjoy ment of uninterrupted health. This is my ex perience, and 1 doubt not you will agree with me in the opinion, that 1 have good reasons for recommending the Doctor and his remedies in cases of this kind, far above the most eminent phvsicians whose skill 1 had tested, and the fur famed and much boasted balsams and panaceas with which I had been dosed. Let others do likewise, if they would he. cured, and that they may not perish for lack of knowledge, I here by request that you will give publicity to nr.y statement in your widely circulating sheet, and much oblige yours, respectfully, JOHN 11. SMITH. The following letters are given, not so much on account of the facts they contain, though they are important, as to give an idea or specimen of many of the same kind that are borne to the ■subscriber by almost every Mail from the North, South, East and West. They were not intended for publication, and are therefore the more to be relied on, and appreciated. Benjamin Jones’ Letter. Traveller's Rest, Dooly Cos. Ga. ) January IG, 1850. 5 Dr. 31. S. Thomson, Dear Sir : —I hope you will excuse n.e for not writing to you sooner. I have not forgot you, neither will 1 forget to pay you when 1 sell my cotton. I am much gratified in being able to announce that my son has got almost entirely well, so much so, that all those symptoms of disease have left him, but the enlargement of the spleen which has not entirely gone. To look at his situation eight months back, and to look at him non it seems almost as one risen from the dead. I say to you, there is no more healthy looking youth in "all thiscounty, indeed his whole sys tem is regular and easy. God knows how long lie will remain so, but I hope he will to the end of life. He has not taken any medicine forthe last four months, yet he is thirty pounds heaver than before that t'ime. I had applied to Physi cians of both the Mineral and Botanic Schools, of eminent general qualifications, bu t all to no benefit, but thanks to God, and gratitude to you for his restoration. 31y feelings are indeed un speakable. The medicine is nearly gone, and I fee! like anew man. I have not changed much in my appearance, but surely in my feelings lam well. I now can enjoy my self with my family, my neighbors and even myself; this world looks bright, and I feel hap py in the anticipation of the future. I atn en tirely free from almost every symptom of the disease with which I have been afflicted. It you think 1 had belter take some more medicine to make sure of it, please send it and oblige, Yours respectfully, W3I. W. WALKER. I’ersons desirous oftesling the efficacy oftliese remedies in their own cases, no matter where they reside, can do so very conveniently by send ing their age andsymptoms in writing as correct ly as possible, when medicines to suit their va rious cases will be com pounded and sent by mail, express or private hand. Black Spots on the Skin. —During the summer season we frequently meet with persons who are sorely annoy ed with black spots, about the size of a pin’s head, just under the lining of the surface—these spots are truly annoying and re pulsive in appearance; they are nothing more or less than dust, the skin being warm and the individual perspiring freely, the dust closing up the ducts of the sebaceous glands, their oily se cretions are not given off', and consequently a cheesy deposit is the result; this becomes rancid and turns black, disfigures the complexion, and often inflames and suppurates Let Radwny’s Soap be freely used, absorption will take place, ajid the spots speedily disappear. Heing poor, he was compelled to limit its manuf'cure, by which me .ns it has been kept out of msr ket. and the sale* circumscribed to those only who hud proved its worth, and known its value. It had reached the ears of many, nevertheless, as those persons who bad been healed of sure diseases, «nd saved from death pro claimed its excellence nnd wonderful ' 1 HEALING POWER. Knowing, many years ago . that he had. by his skill science and experience, devised an article which would be of incalculable advantage to mankind when the meant would be furnished to bring it into universal notice, when its inestimable virtues would be known and appreciated. This time has mine, the means are supplied ; this QRAXI) A.XI) t’.Vf.'Q VA l.l.b'A) PH KPA RATIO# is manufactured on the largest scale, and is called for throughout the length and breadth of the land, especially as it is found incapable of detreneration or deterioration. Ualike young S. |» To \ nsend’s. it Improves with age. and never changes, but for the better : because it is prepared on scientific principles by&st" * fieman. The highest knowl edge of Chemistry, and ti ,-ttest discoveries of the art, have all been brought into “e'l nation in the manufacture of the Old l)r*s Sarsa pari lit de Sarsaparilla root.it is well known to medical men, contains many medicinal pro porties, and ->oine properties which are inert or useless, and others, which if retained in preparing it for use, produce ferment it ion and acid, who h is injurious to the system. Some of the properties of Sarsaparilla are so volatile, that they entirely evaporate and are lost in he preparation, if they are not preserved by a scientific process, known only to those experienced in its manufacture. Moreover, these volatile principles, which fly off in vapor, or as an exhala tion. under heal, are ttie very essential medical properties *f the ro->t which give to it all it-* value. Any person can boil or stew the root till they get a dark eolnred liquid, w hich is more from the coloring matter in the root than from an> thing else; they can then strain this Insipid or vapid liquid, sweeten w ith sour molasses, and then call it >k SAKtSAPA ItILLA EXTRACT or SY RUP.” But such is not the article know nas the GENUINE OL1) DR. JACOB TOWNSEND’S SARSAPARILLA. This is so prepared, that all the inert properties of ths Sarsaparilla root are first removed, every thing capable of becoming acid or of fermentation, is extracted and rejected; then every particle of medical virtue is secured in a pure an«i concentrated loriii; and thus it is rendered incsfiableof losing any of its valuable nnd healing properties, rrejiared in this way, it is mMile the most powerful agent in the Cure of innumerable diseases Hence the reason why we hear commendations on every side In its favor by men, women, and children. We find it doing wonders in the cure of COJXSUMPTIOJX, J) VS PEPS FA, nnd LITER COM PLALXP, anti in RHEUMATISM. SCROTUM, PILES , COS 'riEE.YESS, nil CUTAjVEOUS FH UP TIC M'S, PIMPLES , BLOCTHES , and ail alfectious arising from IMPURITY OF THE BLOOD. It possesses a imtrvellous efficacy in all com plaints arising from Indigestion, from Acidity of the. Stomach, from unequal circulation, determination of l’t'H>d to the head, palpitation of the heart, cold feet and hands, cold chills and hot dashes over the body. It has not its equal in Colds and Coughs; and promotes easy exfiectoraiion and gentle perspiration, relaxing stricture of the lungs, throat, and every other part. Hut in nothing is its excellence more manifestly seen and acknowledged than in ali kinds and stages of FEMALE COMPLAINTS. It works wonders in cases of Evur Abus or H'hites. Fnll ing of the IVomb , Obstructed, Suppressed, or Painful Menses, Irregularity of the meustru J periods, and the oKe ; and is as effectual in curing all the forms of Kidney Disease s. Hy removing obstructions, ami regulating the general system, it gives tone and strength to the whole body, and thus cures ail forms of Nervous diseases and debility, and thus prevents or relieves a gre.it variety of other mils dies, as spinal irritation. JXeura/gia, St. Titus' Dana Swooning, Epileptic E.ts, Convulsions, 6l c. it cleanses the blood, excites the liver to healthy action, tones the stomach, and gives good digestion, relieves the bowels of torpor and constipation, allays inflammation, purifies the skin, equalises me circulation of the blood, producing gentle w armth equally all over the body, and the insensible perspiration; relaxes all strictures and tight ness, removes all obstructions, and invigorates the entire nervous system. Is not this then The medicine you pre-eminently need ? But can any of these things be said oft*. H. Townsend's Infer or article? This loung man’s liquid Is not to be COMPARED WITH THE OLD DR’B, because of one -\\H i’ that the one a LNUAPA HLK of DETERIORATION, and NEVER SPOILS, while the other DOES ; souring, fermenting, ami bloving the bottles containing it into fragments ; ihe sour, acid hqukl exploding anti damaging other goods ! Must not this horri ble compound lie poisonous to the system?— Hhat! put acid into a system already diseased with acid '. VV hat causes Dyspepsia but acid ? Do w e not all know that w hen Ickmi sours in our stomachs, what mischiefs it produces ? tlatil knee, heartburn, palpitation of the heart, liver cniiiolsmt, diarrhoea, dysentery, colic, and corruption of the o.ood! What is Scrofula but an acid humor in the body ? VVhat produces all the humors which bring on Eruptions of the Skin, tscakl Head, Salt Kheum, Erysipelas, White Swell lugs, Fever Sores, and ail ulcerations internal and external I It is nothing under heaven, but an acid substance, which sours, and thus spoils all the fluids of the body, more or .ess. VVhat causes Rheumatism but t sour or acid fluid which insinuates itself between the Joints and else w here, irritating and inflaming the delicate tissues upon which it acts ? So of nervous diseases, of impurity of the blood, <h deranged circulations, and nearly all the ailments which afflict human nature. Now is it not horrible to make and sell, and rnfimtuf nor sc to use this b. .vU\G. FERMENTING, ACH) “COM POUND” OF S. P. TOWNSEND, tnd yet he would fain have it understood that |>ld Br.
