the line had been detached to cruize off the Cape, where
the Dutch had two (hips of 60 guns, one of 50, and"a fri

“ There is an infurrertion amongst the workmen in the

T he following is the Dutch account of the artion be-
Aween the Rr:He and the Crefeent, a* received** 9 letter
from Capt. G. Orthuis, Commander of the Butch frigate,
datqd Cadi*, June t. ** We have had a battle on.the
$? th °f May, with an Engliffi frigate of 32 or 36 gum,
and a multitude bf men. The engagement began at half
pud four in the morning, and ended at eight* We fired
1200 (hot and 5000 weight of powder. The Englilh fri .
gate, which we think to be the Seahorse, loft her fore
inaft, and had manv of her men killed and wounded. The
Engliffi unable to defend themselves any longer, we called
to them to strike, which they did, but unfortunately we
could not get a boat out, our ffilp being so much damag
ed; and feeing the Castor frigate, commanded by Capt.
Melville, was under Engliffi colours, afttr having had a
long engagement with an Engliffi man of war, who had
received no hurt, we thought it neceflary to quit our
prize, which we left %<y miles weft from Cadiz. The 31st
0/ May we diftovered the frigate we had encaged, and
which the enemy had tak.*n in tow. We had 12 men
killed and 40 wounded in the action; and an hour after -
waids we loft our mainmast, and all our upper timbers so
much hurt they cannot be used again. We hear from
Zeland that the Zuid Keveland of 60 guns, the Schiedam
of 50, the Jason of 36, the Orange Zaal and Walcheren
of 20 each, were at anchor off Dlfhock ; arid that the Ba
ron Kinkcl, who commands the Zuid Beveland, had re •
ceived orders to fail for the Texel. The Endraght frigate,
Capt. Adrien de Roock, is arrived at the Texet frbhs Su
rinam, and brought in an Engliffi brig bound to New
-with provifioris. In an engagement (he had with
three privateers before Matowync ffie loft 70 men killed
and wounded.
July 27* The Dutch fleet, confiding of two 74 gun
/hips, two of 68, four 0f64, two of 34, one of 44, with
several frigates, having under their convoy a large fleet of
merchantmen, failed from the Texel to the northward on
Thursday the 19th irift. Admiral Parker is cruizing on
the coast of Norway, waiting the return of the homeward
hound Baltick fleet, which were to fail from E!(incur on
the 17th inst. So that the Dutch are certainly gone to
the fame port we may soon expert to lsear of an artion.
