Too Much Ado About Nothing
Since Elder Thomas’ arrival the past,
new in charge of the A. M. E. church o
this city, there has been a growing tenden
cy on the part of some of the members of
the church, to extend to him a very Un
christianly and cold reception. And we
as defenders of right and justice, readily
respond tn the rescue of this brother
against whom they have no legitimate
charge and summon his unchristianly army
of accusers to trial, and when we brought
them to trial, and inquired of them for
what reason they had been so unjust in
their condemnation and derision of the
brother, they have no reason, but that
“We wanted Elder Singleton back ”
Now we would like to ask those incon
sistent, one sided set of wranglers, who
are directing this campaign of disSetUion
and discord, whether you think it chris
tianlv to despitefully tn atone for no other
reason than that you like another better?
and regardless of ycur vows and sworn
allegience to the church and chistianity to
boldly ass rt that you will not support him
call yourselves men aud women, loyal to
the chnrch and cause that you promised
support and defend, and be guilty of such
conduct. Do you know that the A M E
churh change their preachers from timt
to time in obedience to its governmene
an] not for vague and selfish whims and
fancies? Now, we admit to the fact the
former pastor, Elder R. H. Singleton was
of that type of a model Christian gentle
man, is hard to be equaled and rarely ex
celled and was our ideal preacher, but
aside from that fact Elder Singleton could
not plant himself in Gaines’ Chapel nor
did he desire to do so, hence the change.
He with regard to Christianity and the
cause which he like you, have sworn
allegiance before God and men, meekly
bowed to rhe enevitable and goes merrily
on fostering the cause of Christ, and by
your actions have shown yourselves deser
ters 'planing a campaign against its
servant and fostering an evil design of
robbiug God. Now heretofore, you have
' given liberally to the church, and if the
‘ motives which have prompted you to do so
1 were sincere and honest. The same op
r portunity await you to continue your
1 loyalty to the church and the cause of
I Christianity. They are still in your reach.

COL. SISTRUNK LECTURE.
During the able lecture by Col.
Sistrunk Thursday evening, quite a
concourse of feelings gathered in the
rear of the church|building and while
the Col. would be taking breath and
clearing his throat, the pussies would
encore him with a clamorous melody.
We mean to say the cats serenaded
tbe Col. and stimulated him to a dis
solving of the race problem.
