excursion to Bluffton, on Monday

Sylvan Glen, from the wharf foot ol
Drayton street, at 12 o’clock. The
steamer will arrive at Bluffton on
the morning of the 4th, ami take
on an immense excursion party
lor Beaufort, and continue her
course. 1 hose who desire to spend
the day in Bluffton, will have an
opportunity to do so, as the steamer
will not return to Bluffton from
Beaufort until 6 p. m., the same
'day, and as soon as transfers are
made, the boat will start for Savan
nah, arriving here at 8 o’clock on
the evening of the 4th. Brass and
string bards will be on board. No
liquors will be sold and the best of
order will be enforced. Tickets

we are sure, do not regret it.

Janies Tabernacle, A. M. E. church,
will give a grand family excursion to
Beaufort, 8. C., Monday Sept. 10th,

and well wishers of the good work, and
especially, the members of other denom
inations, who are cordially invited to
participate. The church is in need of
funds to assist in paying off a few old
debts, which has been hanging over it
for the past eight years, and it is hoped

An Elopement Nipped in the Bud.
A certain white lady in a central
locality, was desirous of marrying, but
for reasons best known to the parents,
objections to this course were inferpos
<d. Love is determined and is never
satisfied until it can revel in itself.
Everything for an elopement had been
arranged, anti the young man called at
t he house at the appointed hour, his heart
leapping with happy expectations. Like
Romeo, he watched at the window for
his Juliet. She appeared, and after
bidding the home of her childhood fare
well started out of the window to her
lovers arms, but alas, the old man
caught her as she was getting out and
thereby broke the elopement business
up.

and the Attacks Guards, on Mon

streets of the city, under command

numerous friends and well wishers
of the organizations. The affair •
promises to be one of the most
enjoyable of the season, and it is

Savannah, and had been complaining
of feeling unwe 11 for some time, and he
procured, the 'medical attention of phy
sicians where he lived. They did him but
little good and finally became to Savan
nah, and wa*> attended by the best
inedirial skill that could be procured,
but alas, all proved fruitkss. He had
many warm friends in this city, who
rende red all possible assistance, in giv
ing Lima place of shelter, nourishment t
Ac. Rev. Ho-ward, was a member of
Widovr’s Son Lodge No. 4, A. F. & A.
M.., of this city, who, with members of
other lodgeis of the fraternity, escorted
hit; remains to its final resting place.
W e learn that he was a quiet, sober
and industrious man. He was 25 years
and lea-ves four small children
and a wife to m.ourn his loss. To them,
