WATCH OUT!
A Word of Caution to Fruit And
Vegetable Growers.
Fruit, vegetable and truck growers
should be very careful as to whom
they made consignments in the large
cities. In almost every market there
are sharks who will swindle them at
every turn. This is the stock in
trade of some so-called commission
merchants and the way to run them
out of business is not to patronize
them.
There is no better market any
where than Atlanta for the melons,
vegetables, all kinds of fruit, butter,
chickens, eggs, etc., and the city is
well supplied with commission mer
chants who will deal honestly with
out-of town producers,
The People’s Pabty Papeb has
an eye to the interests of its friends
in the country and will not let them
be swindled if it can help it.
Some of the commission merchants
are running cards in The People’s
Pabty Paper, and after a searching
investigation we heartily recommend
them to those who wish to put their
products on the market in Atlanta.
L. Shumway & Co., who have an
advertisement in this issue of the
People’s Party Paper is one of
Atlanta’s most reliable commission
houses. Mr. Shumway came to
Atlanta from Fort Valley where for
years he has been largely interested
in fruits Shumway & Co., will
make a specialty of fruits, vegeta
bles, etc., and those who ship to them
may depend upon prompt and hon
est treatment. Correspond with
them.
Among others in our paper whom
we specially desire to commend is the
firm of Marshall & Greer. Mr.
Marshall is from Tennesse and Mr.
Greer is from Alabama, but both
have been in Atlanta several years
and have established themselves in
the confidence and esteem of the best
people of the city. They will look
after the interests of their customers
and will make prompt and faithful
returns on all goods consigned to
them. They will make a speciality
of melons and fruits this season and
the producers of Georgia and other
Southern States will find Atlanta a
good market and
good firm to deJ,.wit
\ win
The aii
very
in Atlanta, has
market for a weed which grows lux
uriantly in Georgia.
The root of this weed which is
known to almost every farmer as
Ginseng, is worth its weight in gold
in China, its curative proper
ties are regarded as almost infallable.
There is not a plantation in Georgia
or any of the surrounding states
where Ginseng cannot ;be found in
abundance—growing wild.
Dr. Wang Gum Sing will take all
he can get at ten cents per pound
and pay half of the freight on ship
ments of fifty pounds or more to his
address in Atlanta. In fact he wants
it in any quantity that it can be ob
tained from ten pounds up.
The People’s Pabty Paper in
troduces the subject with the hope
that its readers may be benefitted by
a product which has heretofore been
regarded as a worthless weed. A
small amount of grubbing on almost
any plantation would bring many
pounds of Ginseng roits to the sur
face, and as soon as it is washed it
will promptly command ten cents per
pound if shipped to l)r. Wang Gum
Sing, who has a card in this paper.
Those who know. Ginseng when
they see it and are [willing to grub
for it, can realize handsome profits
which will compensate materially for
the low price of cowon.
Floyd Count] Alliance.
The Floyd counts Farmers’ Alli
ance met on the 2a 1 Wednesday in
April at the court house in Home in
response to call pf the president,
Hon. S. J. Whatley, for the purpose
of effecting a reorganization. A
goodly number of the representative
Alliancemen of thd various Sub-Alli
ances of the county being present, it
was resolved to reorganize as one
general Alliance fop the whole county
and to invite all ttue Alliancemen to
join with us in nfaintaining the or
ganization, and in doing all we can to
promote the interest of the wealth
producing classes We see every
nefarious device known to the in
genuity of man, employed to place an
uudue proportion of the burdens of
taxation upon ag'iculture. We see
syndicates and fusts and corpora
tions and combinations of every sort
organized for the purposes which
mean our destruction and only by
organization can we make any proper
effort in defense of our interests.
Farmers think of it, and think seri
ously. Through the Farmers’ Alli
ance you saved thousands of dollars
in the purchase of fertilizers alone.
Let us come together and try to help
each other. Another meeting will
be held early in; July and we hope
for a good attendance.
