Congressional Election.—Governor Kaliun has
ordered an election to be held on t! • first Mon
day in January next, for a Representative to fill
the vacancy in the House of Representatives of
the United States, occasioned by the translation
of Mr. Forsyth to the Senate. Judge Reid, of
Augusta ; Dr Thomas Hamilton, of Clinton,
and Gen. limner V. Milton, of Jeffersuti,are can
didates for the appointment.
Mr. Porter introduced yesterday, in Senate,
a resolution authorising the Governor to appoint
two suitablepersons tocompile and digest into one
volume, all the laws of a general nature, and the
caption only of such private or local laws as may
now be in force in this state, including the laws
of the present session of the legislature.

elected on the 7th October, 18 Iti, a re
presentative from this state ill the House "f Re
presentatives of the Congress of the United
States, for two years, from and afier the third
day of March, 1817; and also elected, on the
fifth day of October, 1818, a representative from
this state in the House of Representatives of the
Congress of the United States, for two years,
from and after tile third dav of March, 1819.
And whereas the said John Forsyth, was elect
ed on the 7th of November, 1818, bv joint ballot
if both branches of the general assembly, a Sen
ator in the Congress of the United States, to fill
the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of the
honorable George M. Troup—and he having sig
nified to me his acceptance of said appointment,
it lias therefore become the duty of the executive,
in pursuance of the latter part of the second sec
tion of the act of the legislature, passed on the
