REMOVAL OF THE INDIANS.
On motidn of Mr. Bell, the several
special orders of the day were post
poned, and the Houise resolved itself
into committee of the whole, Mr.
Wiclcliffe being called to the chair,
and took up the bill making.an appro
priation to enable the President ofthe
United States to effect an exchange
of lands with the Indian’s, within the
States, and to provide for their re
moval beyond the river Mississippi.
Mr. Bell, Chairman of the Com
mittee on Indian Affairs, rose and ad
dressed the Committee at large, in
explanation of the objects of the bill,
and the policy and expediency of the
measures which.it contemplated.—
Having spoken upwards of two hours,
