moved to Augusta, Ca. lie is a Union man.
Death of Judge Alexander.
The lion. Robt. B. Alexander, lato Judge of the Chatta
kooclwe Circuit, died at bis residence in Columbus on Fri
day evening last at 7 o'clock, after a short illness of about one
wJuk. The event has cast a gloom over the whole commu
nity, of which he was an honored and beloved member. In
deed we know of but few men in that city, whose sudden
death could be more deeply deplored than that of Judge
Alexander. He was a high-minded, honorable man,
foremost in measure* of public utility, and possessed of ma
ny engaging attributes of character that endeared him to a
Urge circle of admiring friends ’Tis but a few days, sineo
h* was in Macon and paid us a friendly visit, lie was then
in his usual health an 1 cheerful flow of spirits. Now bis
mortal remains repose under the clods of the valley 1 On
Sunday last an immense concourse of the Brotherhood of
Masons and Odd Fellows and citizens attended his funeral,thus
Uaring testimony to liis great worth as a man and a mem
ber of society. The following tribute of respect to his
memory we copy from the Columbus Enquirer of Tuesday:

The members of the Bar, the students at law in this
city, the. Judges of the inferior Court and the various
Officers of the county, assembled at the Office of Col.
IlmesTlolt, on Saturday the 15th inst., to express their
sorrow for the loss they, as a body, had sustained, in
common with llt> whole community, in the unexpected
death of the honorable Bojibiu* B. Alexander, lately
the JuJjjs oi tli? ►superior Court? of the Chattahoochee
Circuit.
After the meeting was organized by appointing Col.
Seaborn Jones Chairman, and A. 11. Cooper Secretary,
upon motion of James Johnson, Esq , a Committee was
directed to prepare Resolutions, suitable to the sad occa
sion which called the meeting together.
The committee, composed ot Col. Henry L. Benning,
James Johnson, Esq., and Muj Wiley Williams report
ed a 3 follows:
The Bar of Columbus, the Judges of the Inferior
(Gnuuk, ’the Officers of both the Superior and Inferior
(Courts, and the students at law, have with deep sorrow,

der. While the community have thus been deprived

ty days, as a badge of mourning for his death.

family, in this their irreparable bereavement.
4. That these proceedings shall be formally commu
nicated to Mrs. Alexander, and be published in the
newspapers of tlie city.
5. That the Chairman of this meeting be requested
to cans** these proceedings to be entered upon the Min
nies of the Superior Court of Mmcogee Jounty, at its
next session.
