WILLOUGHBY'S TELEGRAPH
WATER CARRIER.
Machine is constructed by stretching h wire
1. from the house to the spring or well, and sup
porting it by poles sintilario the ‘l'elegraph. A small
car is then made to run on the wire by meausofa cord
and wheel. The wheel is placed in some convenient
situation near the kitchen, or on the porch if desired,
and by an ingenious arrangement of machinery, a
bucket that will contain from three to six gallons, or
more if required, can be sent and returned full of wa
ter a distance of three hundred vards in two minutes.
This machine has been prottounc* and by persons who
have witnessed its operation in every portion of the
country, where it has been exhibited, the most inge
nioits, simple, and generally pfact cab’e machine for
raising and conveying water ever invented.
It possesses many advantages over other machines
used for conveying water, some of which are as fol
lows :
1. The water is conveyed from the fountain to
the place desired in a few seconds without passing
through either wooden or metallic pipes, in which it is
generally acknowledged that it loses much of that
fr* shn.es and purity it possessed at the fountain.
2. The practicality of adapting it to any situation,
(it requires un head or full, either over level ground,
acrossbr niches, roads or ravines, and tip the most rug
ged hills to any required height.
3. The small amount of labor required for their emo
tion ; their non-liability to get out of rep-.irs. combin
ed with their cheapness, which i about one-half the
usual cost of most any other hydraulic machine* in
use ; makes it otic of the most desirable ineaus of ruin
ing and conveying water known.
This machine can be used with equal facility for
raising all kinds of materials used in the cracliou of
buildings.
