Important Surgical Operation.
r>r. Benson of this city, has lately removed a tu
mour from the throat of a negro which weighed ove
six onnees. The whole operation was performed
through the patient's mouth without making any ex
ternal wound, lie is now perfectly well.
OBITUARY
Pied in Pittsburgh, ra.on the 2d inst. in the 40th
year of his acre, Mr. Alexander P. Andrews, son of
the late Rev."john Andrews and brother of the Editor
of this paper. ]le leaves a widow and nine children
to mourn the loss of an affectionate Husband and
kind Father.

late Frederick Sims, in the 51st year of her age.

MACHINERY
FOR THE AGRICULTURAL LAIR
rI''UE undersigned would inform those who intend
-L exhibiting Machinery at toe Agricultural fair to
he held in this city in October next, that the Executive
Committee have made arrangements to place a Steam
Engine on the ground in motion for the purpose of
driving such machinery as may be brought for exhibi
tion, is therefore necessary that application be
made in time, in order to secure a location. The
Steam Engine will communicate motion to a line of
shafting, which shafting will revolve one hundred
times per minute, aud on which will be drums thirty
inches diameter to which size, parlies will atjapf the
size of the driving pulleys of their machinery as may
be6t suit the velocity intended to be given. Patent
Leather arid Gum Elastic bands of all size* can be
furnished at moderate prices. It is desirable that all
communications (Post paid.) on the subject be receiv
