Every man’s fortune is in own hand; a wise

God intended all woman to be beautiful as
much as he did morning-glories and roses, and
what lie intended they should become they
would, if they would obey His laws and cut in
doh nee and corset strings, and indulge in free
dom and fresh air. For a girl to expect to be
handsome with the action of her lungs depen

of tape, is as absurd as to look for tulips in a
snow-bank or a full grown oak in a flower
pot.

Pat looked at him in such a way as to fix his

Leeches, Breast, Capping & Eye Glasscs&c.
nrilOJl AS’ Patient Artificial Leech, Breast, Cupping and
X Eye Classes, kc., are new Surgical intruments that no
Physician or family should be without. They are valuabls in
struments for Planters. Such are their simplicity that any negro
can, in a few minute®, be taught to use them, and no po.-si
bility of getting out of order. The following are a few of
many certificates given in their favor ny the first of the Medi
cal Faculty of New York arid this city:
1 have examined and tested Thomas’ Glasses’ for Cupping,
Leeching and drawing the breasts. They are simple and use
ful and possess many advantages over any that ! have ever
used for the same purpose. J. VV. BENSON, M. D.

New York, Feb. 5, 1852.
> I have examined Mr. Thomas’s Breast Glass, and had it tried
under my inspection, I think very well of it, and believe it
will answer for which it was intended better than anything
with which I am acquainted. C. IL GILMAN, M. D.
Prof, of Midwifery, College of Physicians and Surgeons.
New York, Tub. 2, 1852.
I hereby certify that I have made trial of Mr. Thomas’ Cup
ping Glass and Artificial Leeches, and that I have been well
satisfied with their operation. I recommend to the members
of the Medical Profession as an ingenious and useful invention.
ALFRED C. POST, M. D.,

New York Hospital, Feb. 2, 1852.
I have, had repeated occasions to observe the action of the
Cupping Glass and Artificial Leech and Breast Glass, invented
by Mr. Thomas, and am highly pleased with them. The ad
vantages they possess over the ordinary aparatus are numer
ous and important. The ease and rapidity with which their
object is effected, their neatness and readiness of application,
their simplicity and apparent durability, all recommend them
strongly to the notice of those who may require them. In ev
ery ease in which I have employed them in the Hospital, their
effect has been perfectly satisfactory. C. M. ALLEN, A!. D.

FECTORIAL STOMACH PILLS.
A remedy for Coughs, Colds, Catarrh, Croup, Whooping
Cough, Asthma, Consumption, Nervous Diseases, Dyspep
sia, Erysipelas, Salt Rheum, Disease of the Heart, Fevers
of all kinds, Obstructed and painful Menstruation, Inflam
mation and Pain in the Chest. Back and Side, and all dis
eases arising from a deranged state of the Stomach, and
to relieve the distress and bad feelings from eating too hear
ty food in the week and dyspeptic habits.
These Pills act as an expectorant, tonic, and aperient, and
are designed to supercede the use of the various cough mix
tures in the form of Expectorants, Syrups, Balsams, and Sar
eaparillas of the present day.being what tbe public have long
needed, and put at such a low price that all will be able to ob
tain them. One box of these pills which co-ts but 25 cents
possessesfour times the powerin curing the diseases for which
they are recommended, than the high priced one dollar bottles
of any of the expectorants, syrups, balsam®, or sarsaparillas
now before the public—and a fair trial of them will convince
any one of the truth of this statement.
They possess properties peculiarly adapted to restore the
lungs and vital organs to a healthy state. They loosen and
discharge all the morbid secretions, assist greatly the expecto
ration, and render the lungs free from that effete matter which
characterizes all those diseases; and the proprietor feels au
thorized to state, from personal observation, and witnessing
the astonishing effects of these pills on a multitude of cases,
that there is not mother remedy in the whole Materia Medica
capable of imparting such healing properties to the lungsand
vital organs as these pills.
Each box contains ‘25 Pills~-Price 25 cents.
ALSO
DR. STRONG’S
COMPOUND S A\ATI V E PILLS.
WARRANTED TO BE PURELY VEGETABLE.
Health is too important to be trifled with; yet we find per
sons every dt v who give the most careful attention to their
ordinary pursuits, vet neglect that which is far more impor
tant to them, tiiar health. If these invaluable Pill*were kept
on hand by every family, and restored to on the first symptoms
of disease, they would save many a valuable life, sacrificed
by delay. They are a most superior medicine in the cure ot
ail Billions Complaints, Chills and Fever. Dyspepsia. Costivc
ness, Liver Complaint. Jaundice,Sick Headache,Scrofula, Lost
of Appetite, and all lingering diseases.
They purify the blood, equalize tho circulation, reslore the
liver, kidnevs and other secretory organslo a healthy tone and
action; and from their tonic effects, prevent that general pro
stration and debility of the stomach and intestines that is so
often the consequence of a free use of other purgative medi
cines. Hence asa Female Medicine, they have no equal, and
when taken according to the directions, they never failto cure
the very worst cases of Pilts, after nil other remedies fail.—
They act in concert with nature, and assist her in her efforts
to overcome disease ; they must, thorr tore, exert an influence
all-powerful in preserving and restoring the general health,—
They have been used in every form of disease, and in various
climates, and their excellence proved, in cases where medica
skill and many boasted remedies had failed to afford relief.
Diseases that seemed the most opposite in their nature, have
yielded with equal facility to their use,and cures have been
effected in cases that seemed beyond hope. Nor is it strange
that such should be the case, for all diseases, however different
ly named, disorganize the secretions, and impairs the vitality
of the blood.
A medicine, therefore, that is purely Tractable, and aids na
ture to restore these important functions to a healthy state,
must prove of service in ail forms of disease. Dr. Strong’s
Compound Sanative Pills possess these rare virtues,
theiefore not a mure purgative medicine, hut a general remover
of disease, a pu.ifier of the blood, and a strengthener of the
system.
Those who have once tried these Pills never afterwards feel
willing to be without them, which is sufficient proof of their
good qualities.

Liverwort and Tar.
VSAFEand ceitain cure for Coughs, Colds, Croup, Asth
ma, Consumption of the Lungs, Spitting of Blood,
Bronchitis, Hooping Cough, and all Pulmonary Affections.
A Lovely Young Lady Cored of Consumption.
The following is from the pen of Win. II Lcvison,
Esq. the distinguished editor of the United States Military
and Naval Argus, date New York, January 20, 18oU. What
could be more conclusive?
‘lt is seldom we permit ourselves to occupy a space in these ■
columns to speak in praise of any articlein the patent medi- i
cine way; but when we seethe life of a fellow-creature saved j
by the use of any medicine whatever, we consider it as our 1
right, if not our duty, tegivea simple statement of facts, that
others may, in like manner, be beneiltted. The case which
has induced us to pen this article was tiiat of a young lady !
of our acquaintance, who by frequent exposure to tbe i
night air, contracted a Cold which settled on the Lungs ;
before its ravages could be stayed. (This occurred two years
ago this winter.) Various remedies were used, but with very ;
little effect or benefit. Tbe Cough grew worse, with copious !
j expectoration, and the sunken -ye, and pale, hollow cheek j
| told plainly that pulmonary disease was doing its worst on her ;
j delicate frame. The family physician was consulted, and al- -
, though he would not admit to the young lady that she really ;
j had the consumption, jet he would give no encouragement as I
jto a cure. At this crisis her mother was persuaded to make
i use of a bottle of l)r. Rogers’ Compound Syrup of Liverwort
| and Tar, and wc are happy to state she was perfectly cured
i in less than three months by this medicine alone, after even i
j hope was destroyed. It is useless to comment on such a case I
as this, for the simple truth will reach where polished fiction
never can. If any doubt the authenticity of this statement,
let them call at this office.— V. IS. Military and .Yuval .irons,

Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar. —YVe have heard j

hirer wort and Tar. —Of the virtues of Dr. Rogers’Cough
Medicines prepared from the above articles, it is neediest now j
to speak ; its efficacy in speedily curing Coughs,Colds, and oth- !
er lung complaints, which too frequently, if neglected, result j
in consumption, is too well established in public confidence !
to need eulogy now.
From the New York Despatch, Aug. 25, 1849.
Y\ e have heretofore taken occasion to give our testimony
in favor of the curative properties of Dr. Rogers’ Compound

ed by Costiveness, Fain in the Hones, or Rheuma
tism, caused by the use of Mercury, Syphilis, Scro
fula, Boils, Ulcers, <s-c.
r pillß preparation is made as pure as possible. Its bitter taste
_l. and beneficial a fleets in diseases of the Liver, and diseases
arising from an impure state of the Blood, prove it to be the
purest and most useful preparations of Sarsaparilla that is made.
Those who have used the various preparations of Sarsapa
rillo will find, by the taste and effect, that there is more Sarsa
parilla in one bottle of l)r. D's. preparation, than in half a
dozen bottles as it is generally made.
That it might be more particularly adapted to professional
use, nothing but the pure Sarsaparilla has been used, that for
different diseases, physicians might combine or prescribe with
it, such articles as they might consider most appropriate in
cases under their treatment.
Its alterative and mildly purgative effect upon the bowels
make it not only a good substitute for Mercury, but useful in
removing all diseases arising from the imprudent use of Mer- i
cury.
