JL of the Laws of the late Republic or State of
Texas ; also those holding claims against said State ;
also the Heirs of all persons who served and was
killed or died in the Texas War of Independence.
The undersigned, Attorneys at Law, being familiar
with the Laws of Texas and the operation thereof;
’ also having been long engaged in locating land certifi
cates and acting as agents, and being well acquainted
with the public domain, will hereafter give their spe
cial attention to the collection of claims, locating land
certificates and will act as General Land Agent.—
They possess every facility for performing the task as
they live at Austin, the Capitol of the State, where
the archives of Ike State are kept and all the offices
are open to them. Many of the Heirs of those who
■ fell under Faiiuin, Ward, Travis, Bowie and Johnson
are almost entirely ignorant of theii rights. The
Heir or Heirs of every such person is entitled to 7,1 G 5
acres of land if he was the head of a family, if he
was a single man, they are entitled to 4,036 acres.
In numerous instances fraudulent administrations have
been had which should fee enquired into by the Iteifjy.
In many cases ibfi lands have been sold for non-pay
ment of Taxes; few of such sales will stand the test
of a judicial investigation. Certificates for the full
amount of land haye in few .eases been granted.
One of the firm, Thorints Griffin, will lie at the La
nier House, Macon, until Tuesday next, the 12th inst.,
where he will meet any person who may wish to en
gage tfieir services.

fJAHIS INSTITUTION went into operation in 1851. At

as a College, by requisition on the general government, fur
nished it with arms, both for Infantry and Artillery, and pro- i
vided fr the education of a certain number of State Cadets, j
The Legislature also directed a Board of Visitors to lie appoin
ted, of whom the Governor is ex-otiicia President, who duties
are to inspect the Institute, attend its examinations, and re
port on its condition to the Legislature; and in conjunc
tion with a committee of the Board of Trustees, to establish
and declare proper regulations for its government. These
Regulations have been published. The course of study, meth
ods of teaching, and the discipline which they prescribed are,
as nearly as possible, those of the United States Military
Academy. Any person interested may obtain a copy of them
by applying lo the Superintendent. The next academic year
will commence on Monday, June 10th, and all who desire to
