HIOOU. Esq.
5 1>( lg gia—Our Se:retary, Mr. Becqnet,
rt v<irt-l your very interesting letter o 4
* , tij September, by which you inform
Qj4. Howell Cobb, has appointed a
Committee with us, of which
the Chairman.
K yi- gIL T. Sistrunk, Secretary of the
, planter's Convention has also ad-
I to Mr. Becquet several letteis da
. jjd Juee, 22d July, and 6th Sep-
Xone of thoee communications
the receipt of my Utters
** , |f4Se j to CoL Howell Cobb, on the ‘2slh
12 July aud 4lh August, and to Mr.
on the ‘3ih of August.
Chairman of our corresponding Com -
you have no doubt received com-
b l*hod of all those letters; you will
observed that by the recoinmeudalion
(jfoeral Fair your minister residing in
> *•!!<.:, we confided to Col. Howell Cobb
... sole guidance of our movement on your
■< of the Atlantic. It appeared desirable
our official communications should
, w ■** p* ri H' o(l * c * c4St that they should be
ted to parties named by the President
t planter’s Association. You will also
seen by those letters, that our com
. bad resolved to make an essay trip,
jending out goods to be exhibited aad
. ist one of your lairs, and that we should
yrtin return a cargo of Cotton.
CJ. Hotveli Cobb named to as the town
t Mo, Ga., as being the most elegible
-gte to Iteep our first fair or exhibition.—
t .oor Committee progressed in their ia-
N;rJ , our confidence in the enterprise con
,.jej to increase, and it was resolved
more practical, more permanent.
n energetic measures titan those of an
t]WT trip as was first contemplated. We
jenrfore resolved to create a Commercial
Company. The ‘‘lklgia n American Com
wy fa the Southern and ‘ Continental direct
nli with a capital of ten millions of franks
eo millions of dollars.)
tjur Vice President, one of the promot
en of this Company, begs of us to inclose to
. . jome documents, which he begs of you
u communicate to the Planter’s Associa
tion t their meeting in Con wu uon, at Ma* 1
eoc. Geo., on the 10th of December next.
Wt refer you to those documents for furth
ir teormation respecting the statutes of the
ummercial Company.
it you will observe we are getting into
i sore practical form of action ; this will
Mceaarily May the Execution of our
jiani and will prevent us from sending dele
rit.-a K your December convention, but we
yall h* re a pertuinent and powerful instru
ct with capital to carry out all necessary
nOrations that may secure the success
the great object we have in view.
We are strongly supported by the Bel
yan government, our committee is com
> -ed ot the elite of the trading and manu
a-.uring Community, (you may see a list of
ar names in the enclosed documents,) and
toobtain a complete success, we now require
to show to our people some solid, some more
uietantial systems of your support We
vast to be able to put before our people
that you are ready to meet them in the or*
p& zation of this Company; if not upon
ia equal footing, at least enough to show
the serious will or the part of the Planters
to support us in building the foundation of
great work. We insist somewhat
tun this point, not in any view of mere
creating capital but in a view to give
\tral strength to an enterprize which
a assailed by enemies and opposition of all
sorts, both on yours and ac this side of the
Atlantic.
We therefore hope that upon your giving
publicity to the documents which I now
•end you, you may be able to send us very
* list of subscribers to the “Belgian Ameri
cas Company.” We don’t of course wish
those subscriber* to pay any money at pre
sent, what we want is that certain parties
:poa your side engage to subscribe at cer
tain conditions (to be made by themselves)
i portion of the required capital. We re
wire a list of names with their sums beside
txn.
It may be well to mention h-*re that it is
Xintemplated and indeed deeded, if we can
hr** upon this point with the government
TU: to limit the Grst emission of shares to
fcJOO.OOty but to proceed gradually with the
* r .de amount.
We am however not, desirous to go at
race into too large operations, in fact I am
afraid that you will find us over prudent in
oar commercial speculation.
We should be glad to receive from you
3 the prints and information respecting the
Planter's Convention, ia order to enable us
toj idge of the disposition of the public of
jw country, relative to our direct trade
movements.
Kt remain, Dear Sir, respectfullv toots.

There is perhaps no disease which destroys the

There existed no medicine accessible to those suf

The jsiwor of these Bitters over the above named

Dkar Mnt—Yours of the 13th inst.. has been received
its contents noted. Ac. In reply to your enquiry in
regard to the Manipulated Guano as a fertilizer—l
am well plea-edso far as I have tested its use. I ap
plied about 100 lbs. per acre on laud Um: was badly
w orn, and not of the liest when fresh. The product
of the field where the Guano was applied is over SoO
lbs. of seed cotton per acre. The .-ante kind of land
without the Guano produced alioitt 400 lbs. per acre.
My mode of applying the Guano, was by depositing
it in the drill before bedding up the land. I have not
tried its use on corn, hut have no doubt hui it will
succeed well. I shall use it pretty extensively on
my next crop.
Yours Respectfully.
