HERE FRIDAY m
Ey ALICE D. SHEPARD
With the launching of the “League ;
Women Voters” on Friday after- |
noon the future political problems of
.
Peach county should not keep any
one awake nights. When the women
of this community get interested ifr
a thing they have a habit of hanging
on till they learn everything about
thing. Give them a year in poli¬
tics and we guarantee they will rec¬
ognize a candidate two blocks away.
It is nothing new for the women of
this section to assume public respon- j
sibility; they have for years been ac- j
tive in civics and public welfare;
they, were enthusiastic participants in 1
the campaign for the new county, to-! j
They are accustomed to working
gether in clubs ami in religious and
charitable organizations.
They have proved conclusively that
it is possible to be a voice in pub¬
lic affairs and still find time for
neighborly visits, caring for children
and giving of themselves and their
time wherever needed. V'ou wi’l also
find a number of good cooks among
them.
It will not be surprising if this.

those reporting the largest proper- ]

But to get back to the business
of Friday. Mrs. W. J. Braswell |
was the charming wielder of the im
aginary gavel, introducing Judge
C. Riley who proved a very illumi

TENTATIVE DUES FOR FESTIVAL
!
All members of the Executive
Committee of the Peach Blos¬
som Festival Association are
urged to be present promptly at
two o’clock Friday afternoon for
a meeting in General Chairman
C. L. Shepard’s offices in the
Woolfolk building.
With plans well developed,
siasm among all of the people
Peach county at a high pitch,
tentative dates for the Fourth
al Peach Blossom Festival, to he
two-day event this year, set at
day and Friday, March 19th and
reservations for seats already
pouring In, showing that at least
seating capacity for the first day
have been sold out by March 1st,
not before. The Lions Club of M,
before which General Chairman C.
L. Shepard spoke Tuesday, has
served a block of 120 seats and the
Kiwanis Club of that city has asked
for a reservation of 150 seats. Chair¬
man Shepard is spending Thursday
in Atlanta to speak before some of
the leading civic clubs and doubtless
upon his return will reveal other
large reservations. He states that al¬
ready the 1925 Festival has command¬
ed more attention throughoht the
country, in newspaper and radio
licity and along other lines, than the
1924 Festival had received up to
March 1st.
It must be born in mind that the
dates chosen are subject to change
according to the time of the full
hlooming of peach orchards.
Miss Oak Comes Feb. -t
Miss Pauline Oak, who has shown
her fine talent in directing the Fes¬
tival pageants, will be director again
this year, and will arrive next M ed

Arranging for Ticket Sales
J. E. Lee and J. B. Vance are joint'
chairmen of the Committee on Tick¬
ets and are whipping arrangements
into shape to begin sales of tickets
within a few days. Home people will
be given an opportunity at once L»
buy reservations, and it is evident;
’hat they will need to take quick ad¬
vantage of this opportunity if they
expect to have seats to send to rela¬
tives and friends and for the use
of their families.
Not a “Carnival”
At the first meeting of \ .-,e Execu¬
tive Committee last Fr i., Ralph
,
Newton’s motion that tin use of the
word, “carnival," be frowner upon in
connection with such a refined, artis¬
tic event as the Peach Blossom Festi¬
val, was adopted by a unanimous and
already has had a far-reaching effect
through the press of the country. It
is a common agreement thai nothing V
of a carnival nature shall be connect¬
ed with the Festival. On the other
hand, Dr. H. M. Copeland and J. D.
Kendrick, joint chairmen of the En¬
tertainment Committee, are develop¬
ing substantial arrangements for
some of the most elaborate and spec¬
tacular innovations of dignified, ar¬
tistic proportions, ever conceived for
a festival affair. These features, with
the surpassing charm of the pageant,
are calculated to excite the wonder
and admiration of the many thou
sands of people from all parts
America who attend the Festival,
Such a program will exclude the ordi
nary “oratory” features.
The railroads are planning at least
three times as many special trains,
at special rates, to take care ‘of the
■ great floods of people who are com
ing, according to the present outlook,
Thorough plans are being made
for feeding the thousands of visitors

odist church. President A. L. Luce,
who was in the North last Sunday,,
has returned and will be present.
