Judge Riley and C. L. Shepard

County Chamber of Commerce.
Unanimous co-operation was
pledged to the Womun’s Club in wag
ing a Clean-Up, Paint-Up Campaign
to have the city utterly beautiful foi
the reception of visitors at the Peach
Blossom Festival in March. It
shown that every energy of the peo

to mnking this year's Festival
most brilliant one of all. C. I,. Shop
aril, general chairman of 'he

visitors than wear here last year. He
stated that the Festival already ha'-,
received more recognition through
newspapers, radio, etc., and more
evidence of co-operation on the part

March 1st last year.
It was announced that Mrs. E. L.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

is very familiar with the workings of
the suffragette mind, though we
can’t imagine how ne knows so
much). Judge Riley would not com¬
mit himself as to the wisdom of wom¬
en in politics. Perhaps he feared a
possible rival candidate in that gath¬

short talk favoring the League.
Election of officers was next on
the program. Mrs. Almon Williams
who was elected president then gave
an address on the object of the

vote in this section,
I Mrs. Frank Fincher, who was
elected secretary, then read suggse

DAMAGES IN.TRANSIT
Macon, Jan. 25.—Responsibility of
railroads in the delivery of produce
and perishable products in good con
dition at points without the confines
of Georgia is thought to have been
established by a verdict rendered
against the Central of Georgia Kail
road in favor of A. J. Evans, of Fort
Valley.
Evans was awarded damages in
the sum of $600 when evidence in¬
troduced tended to show that a ship¬
ment of peaches sent by Evars to
St. Louis and Kansas City commis¬
sion houses spoiled en route to the
destinations.
Charges that the car was not suf¬
ficiently iced to preserve the fruit
were upheld by a Houston County
jury who passed on the testimony.
