CELEBRATION JULY 4th Atlanta, June 23.—Final prepara¬ tions have been completed to make the Independence Day Celebration on July 4th one of the greatest annual events ever held at Lakewood Park, the home of the Southeastern Fair, and an unusually interesting program has been prepared according to latest reports from R. M. Striplin, Secre tary of the Southeastern Fair Asso ciation which is sponsoring an an nual midsummer event. Harness racing, which is steadily growing in the south is one of the feature events and will head the long list of races and amusements in the early afternoon and evening. Already more than 30 horses are working out daily on the Lakewood track and in dications point to a record breaking entry list. Some of the best pacers and trotters in the south have al¬ ready been entered anti the program will start at 12:30 o’clock. There will be two pacing and two trotting events with three heats to each event. Purses for the harness races amount to more than $1,200.00 which will in¬ sure some good races. Following the harness race pro¬ gram more than a dozen of the fast¬ est automobiles in the south will start humming around the track warming up in preparation for the big auto races that will start at 3:30 o’clock. There will be five feature auto races which carry large purses. The Lakewood track is being care¬ fully worked over and the recent showers have made it ideal for rae ing purposes. As a fitting climax to the grand July 4th celebration at Lakewood there will be a mammouth fireworks display across the lake, which is well adapted to an unusually good show¬ ing of a fireworks program. The Fireworks equipment will cost more than $1,000.00. Immediately after the fireworks is over the scene of the at¬ tractions will shift to the great niid way which will run full force until midnight. Among the other amusements for Lakewood Park on July 4th will be band concerts in the afternoon, -pa triotic speaking and many picnic par¬ ties during the day. Picnicers are es¬ pecially invited to bring basket din ners and spend the 4th of July at Lakewood. Improvements have made Lakewood an ideal picnic site which is free of charge. OUR OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP SAYS NEIL (Continued from First Page Second Section) where. All we have to do is to con vince a reasonable share of the cus tomers of the same things. By using the Florida boom and even promot ing the Florida boom we can build Georgia and get a large share of the visitors to locate in our state, Not all of them will like Florida not all of them will like Georgia and some of them will return to the far north, the far west, to Canada, to the Great Lakes and to New England, But a lot of them will stay. And a lot of them will stay in Georgia." “Just how many stay in Georgia, ) oca t e here and become citizens of our towns and cities and people our depends on the amount of ef¬ fort we put forth to keep them here. They are going there from all the other states. But we’ve got the bet chance of all to get them going down and to catch them when they come out. “So I say let’s rejoice.
