‘
fare of the men and women on the
payrolls by offering to finance a big
institution of this kind to be paid for
eventually by those who are to be (
most benefited by it.
The erecting of this hospital un¬
der the plans by which it is to be
built will bring the big Cental fami¬
ly into even closer communion than
it is at present. It will give to the
employes an institution in which they
well feel a sense of proprietorship
and which as we understand it will
be largely under the management of
those who are to be most benefited
by it. No doubt if the Central had
desired to do so it could have erected
this hospital from its own resources
without asking that the employes
contribute financially to the cause.
Hut in financing the plan so that it
could be erected from the funds of
those who are to be the recipients of
the care and attention of the hos¬
pital authorities it has supplied the
immediate funds for the carrying on
of a work that the employes are to
be interested in from the standpoint
of ownership as well as that of em¬
ployes. It is a fine combination.
We are quite certain the hospital,
when erected, will be a credit to the
system and the employes in whose in¬
terests it is to be built. And that
its benevolence will be widespread
and of genuine worth there is little
doubt.—Savannah Press.
Cruel Way to Fish
Cnlppewu Indians have a way all
their own of fishing, and while It Is
cruel It usually nets results. They use
live squirrels for bait. They fasten the
squirrel on a hook with line and then ,
row out lu tlie lake and throw it over- i
board. The squirrel, in Us agony, stirs
up the water and attracts the big fish, j
One makes a dash and gulps it down
nod the Indian then proceeds to land
his catch. The usual w ay will do for |
us. That’s cruel enough.
