RELIGION, SCIENCE ANI)
SOCIETY
“Life is not measured by its length
or brevity—but by its achievements.
Science is often apt to imply that
religion is a sop tossed out to the
ignorant and superstitious. Social
workers are more than apt to imply
that could the whole social program
be realized, religion would no longer
be needed. Yet Robert Millikan has
defin,teI > r demonstrated that the
greatest scientists are frankly re
llgI0US - And our socitti service enter
prlses realize that they are dependent
upon organized religion for ninety
per cent of their financial support.
HAPPINESS
The constant whirlwind of human
beings rushing after something—
they probably do not know them
selves—leads us to give an extract
from an article in Association Men
by Robt. G. Armstrong.
"We know well enough that leisure
’ s not tdle source happiness—
j lnsure al > unda nce happiness. of material There goods must does not be
something deeper back of life-there
18 a Preferred way of living that does
insure happiness.” I
!
WHY NOT TRY IT ON THE
CHILDREN?
We find in one of the best maga
zincs an article with specific instruc
tions on teaching a “pup” obedience.
A command is accompanied at first
with a Patter of appetizing food,
After the P U P realizes that obedience
»s rewarded with food—you try him
without food. Naturally he loses in¬
terest, so you give him the order
again and lead him to the spot you
wish him to go—then pat him be¬
cause he has obeyed you, and keep
( this up until he is impressed that the
experience is not some strange pun¬
ishment. t
If we should really take the trouble
and interest in teaching children obe- j
dience that lots of folks take in
training dogs, the Chances are that
we wouldn’t lose so much sleep wor¬
rying that young America has gone
to the Bowwows.

ed in pink and white, the color

Disfavor New Schedule
People throughout this community
are not in favor of the new schedule
that the Central of Georgia are
to make on the Perry .
brach division, the hearing to bo
August 15th. The proposed schedule
will place the arrival of train number
104 in Fort Valley about 9:30 in the
morning, whereas it now arrives at
7:33.
This new schedule will place the
arrival of the Perry train on its down
going trip to Perry to arrive at CIo*
. pine approximately at 8:30 o’clock.
The main objection is that expreia
shipments out of Macon will arrive
at its destination too late each morn'*
ing and that passenger service will
not be as -convenient to Fort Valley,
especially during school months, as *
large number of children attend,
school in Fort Valley using the train
as a way of conveyance.
All objections are to be taken Up
with the Georgia Public Service
Commission, Atlanta, Ga., between
now and August 15th.
