leyan, will arrive Thursday (today)
to spend the holidays with her aunts,

On the 29th she will leave for Mem¬
phis to represent Mulberry Street
church at the Young Peoples Conven¬
tion which convenes on the 31st.

last Friday to Lakeland, Fla., return¬
ing Monday night They were aceom
panied home by Mrs. L. L. Browu,
Sr., who had been visiting in Florida
for several weeks, having visited rela¬
tives in Miami, Palm Beach and Lake¬
land.

The Fort Valley Baptist church of

last Sunday morning from the estate
of the late Steve Bassett which was
a bequest by the will of Mr. Bassett.

Lang of Columbus, formerly of Fort

Hildreth has been made a member of

church, Columbus, of which Dr. C. R.
Jenkins is pastor. Hildreth Lang and
his wife, who has Miss Mamie Snow
of Fort Valley, still hold a warm place

Moskovitz, of Fort Valley, Ga., the

Miss Goldenberg is a young woman of

been born in Kumumeta, Japan, she

the American School at Tokyo, and
at the American School in Shanghai,
She came to Georgia in 1920 and
was graduated from Bessie Tift Col
lege in 1924.
She possesses a voice of rare so
prano beauty, has studied voice at the

predated. On one of her visits to
Fort Valley she sang “Beautiful Ja
pan” at the Baptist church, by which
she is remembered by those who heard
her.

WEDS DR. MOORE
The following account of the mar
riage of Miss Louise English from
Sunday’s Atlanta Constitution will be
of interest to her friends in Fort
Valley.
Miss English was at the head of
the expression department in the
schools here for the past two terms
and won a warm place in the hearts
of the school children and made many
friends throughout the city who will
be cordially interested in the an
nouneement of her marriage, as fol- \

“Dr. and Mrs. Moore returned to
Statesboro on November 28 resolved
to keep secret their union until the

After graduation from Gordon she
spent one year at Agnes Scott, fol¬
lowed by a three-year course in the
school of oratory of Brenau, where
she received her degree. Later she
studied for a year at the American
Academy of Arts in New York. She
j s a member of the Apha Chi Omega
sorority. Her success in teaching ora
tory in Millen, Waynesboro and Fort
Valley has given her a state-wide
reputation. She has traveled exten
gjvely in the United States and Can

and his family is prominent in that

which were spent in France, Dr. Moore
attended the Atlanta Southern Den¬

practice of his profession in States

MATHEWS
Mrs. Ben Mathews was honored
last Friday, Dec. 11th, by having a
surprise birthday party given at her
home north of the city by her chil¬
dren and grand children. The occa¬
sion was the anniversary of her 72nd
birthday, presenting an opportunity to
demonstrate their love and apprecia¬
tion in the form of a little surprise
party. The family and a few friends
had been assembled, the dinner pre¬
pared and brought along with a birth¬
day cake, having the little candles to
form the numbers 72. It was a most
pleasant occasion, giving enjoy
ment to the honoree as well as the
