Dl KE-HARRIS WEDDING TO BE
EVENT OF WIDE INTEREST
Miss Amy Duke, third daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John David Duke, will
become the bride of Dr. Ivor David
Harris, of New Philadelphia, Ohio,
and Charlottesville, Virginia, in a
lovely ceremony at sunset in the for
mal garden at their home on Ander¬
son avenue the ninth of September.
The wedding hour will be at six
o’clock and a large number of gue3ts
Will be assembled from southern states
and Ohio and New Jersey.
Mr. Horace Rundel will be at the
•organ and furnish a musical program
before the ceremony and will play
during the wedding hour and the re
ception which will follow.
The marriage vows will be pro¬
nounced by Rev. Marion Daniel Reed,
pastor of the Fort Valley Baptist
church.
Miss Frances Duke, cousin of the
bride, will be her maid of honor and
the bridesmaids will be Mrs. Willis
Taylor Campbell of Griffin, Mrs. Da¬
vid Olin Lane, Mrs. Harris Herbert
Hafer, both of Fort Valley, Mrs. Da¬
vid Eddy Toomey of Dover, Ohio, Miss
Mary Louise Morgan of Roanoke, Vir¬
ginia, Miss Elaine Cameron Tenney,
■of West Orange, New Jersey.
The ushers will be Messrs. David
Eddy Toomey of Dover, Ohio, Rich¬
ard Austin Cameron of Tipton, Indi¬
ana, David Olin Lane and Edgar Lee
Duke, Jr., of Fort Valley, Willis Tay¬
lor Campbell of Griffin, and Dr.
George Stollwerck of Birmingham,
Alabama.
The best man will be Mr. John Dan¬
iel Harris, of New Philadelphia, Ohio,
brother of the bridegroom. The
bride will be given in marriage by her
father, Mr. John David Duke.
The lovely bride-elect, an honor
.graduate of three institutions includ¬
ing Fort Valley high school, Duke
University and the University of Vir¬
ginia, is being honored with many pre¬
nuptial parties, luncheons and other
social courtesies here and in Macon.
The rehearsal party will be given
by Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lee Duke,
Miss Frances Duke and Mr. Edgar Lee
Duke, Jr., at their home on Persons

Mi', and Mrs. Lamar Crawford, of
Pensacola, Fla., were re&nt visitors
to Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Holland.
Miss Georgia Belle Poole spent a
week recently with her sister, Miss
Doris Poole, in Macon.

served Monday afternoon by the Bap
tist W. M. S. in the church parlors in
recognition of the passing of Mrs. F.
W. Withoft, president of the organi
zation.
Mrs. M. D. Reed and Mrs. C. N.
Rountree read the tribute, which will
be recorded in the minutes. Mrs. W.
A. Wooddall and Mrs. Glenmore
Green sang “Jerusalem the Golden”,
a favorite hymn of Mrs. Withoft.
| Mrs. Edgar Duke led the assembly
in prayer, closing the memorial to the
honored and beloved president and
co-worker,

PEARSON-WILSON WEDDING
PLANS TOLD
Invitations have been issued by Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Thomas Pearson to
the marriage of their daughter, Wi¬
nona Mae, to Emory Clyde Wilson.
The wedding will be at 5:30 o’clock
in the afternoon on Sept. 6 at the Fort
Valley Methodist church. Rev. Mari¬
on Daniel Reed, pastor of the Fort
Valley Baptist church, will pronounce
the nuptial vows.
The bride will be given in marriage
by her father, Mr. Pearson. Mrs.
Marion Thompson, cousin of the bride,
will be matron of honor. The brides¬
maids will be Miss Huldah Pearson,
sister of the bride; Mrs. Gene Bur¬
nett, sister of the bridegroom; Mrs.
John Duke and Mrs. Irvin Pearson, all
of Fort Valley. Little James Russell
Pearson, Jr., will be ring-bearer.
William Wilson will be his broth¬
er’s best man.

ers will be Mervyn Glass, Gene Bur¬

The wedding music will be played
by Mrs. Chester W'ilson, organist, and
Mrs. Frederick Fagan will sing.
A reception will follow, to be given
by Mr. and Mrs. Pearson at their
home on the Atlanta road.
The guests will include the wedding
party and out-of-town guests and im¬
mediate members of the two families.
Miss Pearson graduated from Fort
Valley high school and studied at
Georgia State College for Women and
later received a diploma from the
Draughon School of Commerce, At¬
lanta, Recently she has been en¬
gaged in work at the office of the
Peach county agricultural agent here.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate
of Fort Valley high school and studied
at the University of Georgia. He is
associated in business with his father,
J. A. L. Wilson, one of Georgia’s lead¬
ing fruit growers.
The couple will reside in Fort Val¬
ley. They will be honored with a
number of parties and luncheons and
the rehearsal party will be given by
Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Pearson.
Carlise Hamlin has returned from
a weeks visit to relatives in Perry.
Mr. Har ris Sammons, of Clayton,
Ala., is visiting Mr. and Mrs. C. II.

in Winchester, Va., and his sister in
Baltimore, Md. Before returning Mr.

the New York World’s Fair.

of Atlanta, are visiting Mr. Bill Tom
Jones and family.

Mrs. Margaret C. Hardman, recent
ly appointed nurse in the Peach county
health department, addressed the
members of the local organization of
the Woman’s Christian Temperance
Union Friday, Aug. 18, at their
lar meeting held in the Baptist church.
She gave an interesting and instruc
tive account of the nature of her work
and told of the good that was
accomplished in the county through
this agency.
Miss Clare Grovenstein, of Macon,
is spending this week with Miss Mar¬
garet Vance.
