Mrs. Ed Green returned from Wash¬
ington, D. C., Sunday after spending
the month of August with her four
children who live there. She was ac¬
companied home by her two
Messrs. Wiley H. Green and W. Ed¬
win Green, Jr., who made the trip in
their car and will spend three weeks
with their parents.

Gail Sammons, of Atlanta,
-spending a few days here with Mrs.
C. H. Sammons and family, returned
to Macon Monday afternoon.

WEDNESI)AY AFTERNOON
The marriage of Miss Winona Pear¬
son to Clyde Wilson was a pretty
wedding, taking place Wednesday af¬
ternoon at five-thirty o’clock at the
Methodist church, with Rev. M. D.
Reed performing the impressive ring
ceremony in the presence of a large
and fashionable assemblage of friends
and relatives.
The church was effectively deco¬
rated with fern and candelbra hold¬
ing white tapers.
The bride was given in marriage by
her father, Walter T. Pearson. Mrs.
Chester Wilson was at the organ and
rendered the wedding music. Mrs.
Frederick Fagan sang “I Love You
Truly” and "Because.”
The matron of honor, Mrs. Virgie
Pearson Thompson, wore an aqua blue
taffeta, made bouffant, with rosette
hat to match.
The bridesmaids were Miss Hulda
Pearson, sister of the bride, Mrs. Gene
Burnette, sister of the bridegroom,
Mrs. John Duke and Mrs. Irvin Pear¬
son, all of Fort Valley. Little James
Russell Pearson, Jr., was ringbearer.
The maids were all dressed alike,
wearing frocks of raisin red taffeta
and rosette hats to match their frocks.
All carried old fashioned nosegays of
garden flowers.
William Wilson was his brother’s
best man.
Candles were lighted by Irvin Pear¬
son and John Duke. The ushers were
Mervyn Glass, Gene Burnett, Lawton
Pearson and Edwin Haslam, Jr.
The bride was lovely in her wedding
gown of white satin, illusion tulle veil
with off the face cap effect and long
train. She carried bride’s ro ( ses and
valley lilies.
A reception was held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pearson on
the Atlanta road, following the wed¬
ding.
The young couple are members of
prominent families of Fort Valley,
where they will make their home. Mr.
Wilson is associated with his father,
J. A. L. Wilson, one of the leading
fruit growers and agriculturists in the
state.
Mr. Emmett West spent last Sun¬
day at Cordele.
Mrs. Wesley Green and Miss Nina
Ray Matthews, of Atlanta, are visit¬
ing their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
Matthews.

from a two weeks stay at Daytona
Beach, Fla.

MISS MARY CONNER AND MR.
JOHN SHEPARD TO WED
Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Hornady
Conner, of Atlanta, announce the en¬
gagement of their daughter, Mary
Jeanette, to John Ledbetter Shepard,
of Fort Valley, Ga., and Atlanta.
The marriage will take place on Oc¬
tober 7 at the First Baptist Church of
Tuskegee, Ala.
Miss Conner, an only daughter, was
graduated from Tuskegee High School
and later from Judson College, where
she received her A. B. degree. While
at Judson she received many honors
and was president of Lambda Chi
Sigma, honorary science fraternity.
After her graduation she continued
her scholastic work at Emory Univer¬
sity,where she received her M. S. de¬
gree. Miss Conner now holds a posit¬
ion as medical technologist at Grady
Hospital in Atlanta. Her mother was,
before her marriage, Miss Jessie Mae
Johnson, of West Point, Ga.
On her paternal side she is the
granddaughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Young Conner. Mrs.
Conner was Mary Virginia Covington,
of Auburn, Ala.
Miss Conner is the maternal grand¬
daughter of Mr. J. M. Johnson and
the late Mrs. Johnson, who was Janie
Philpott, of West Point, Ga. Mr. Mar¬
shall Conner is the only brother of
Miss Conner.
The bridegroom-elect is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Shepard, of
Fort Valley. Mrs. Shepard was prior
to her marriage, Miss Mattie Belle
Gammell. On his paternal side his
grandparents were the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Wesley Shepard. He is
a great nephew of Mrs. Sallie C. Led¬
better.
On his maternal side his grand¬
parents are Mrs. Emma Parker Gam¬
mell and the late Elias Beall Gammell.
Miss Margaret Shepard, of Chicago,
and Misses Emily and Catherine
Shepard, of Fort Valley, are bis sis¬
ters. His brothers are Charles E.
Shepard, of Atlanta; Dr. Robert P.
Shepard, of Perry; Alton B. Shepard,
of Jacksonville, and Jack D. Shepard,
of Dalton.
Mr. Shepard was graduated from
Fort Valley high school and then at¬
tended Emory University, where he
received his A. B. degree in 1938. He
was a member of the Emory Univer¬
sity Glee Club, Mr. Shepard now
holds a position in the credit depart¬
ment of Sears, Roebuck and Company,
in Atlanta.
After their marriage the young
couple will be at home at 790 Ponce
de Leon Place, Atlanta.
Mrs. S. B. Wilson, Mrs. George
Spear and Mrs. Newt Jordan, Jr., mo¬
tored to Indian Springs Wednesday
for the day.
Mr. and Mrs. Boisy Barfield and
children were the recent guests of
Mrs. Barfield’s sister, Mrs. McCarty,
at Yatesville.

FORT VALLEY CHAPTER

will meet next Wednesday afternoon
at three-thirty o'clock, September 13,
with Mrs. M. F. Johns.
Miss Emily Truman, who has been
visiting Mr. apd Mrs. Frank Harrison
for the past week, has returned to
her home in Macoa.

Mrs. E. B. Wilson and Mrs. A. C.
Lavender and young son, Clinton, have
returned from a visit to Virginia,
Washington, New Jersey and New
York. They were joined in Tazewell,
Va., by Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Bowen, the
later being Miss Maurice Wilson, of
Fort Valley. They motored up, stop¬
ping at places of interest, among them
the World’s Fair.
Miss Lotia Barfield spent the week¬ /
end at YatesVille as the guest of her
sister, Mrs. McCarty.
Mr. C. W. Hill and Mr. Bartona
Hill and children stopped here for a
short visit last Tuesday en route to
Miami, Fla. Mr. C. W. Hill is an
old friend of Miss Nora Rountree and
they had not met since 55 years ago.
He now lives in Chicago.

Mr. John Johnson, who was for¬
merly manager of the Postal Tele¬
graph office here, later at Dublin and
Montezuma, has returned here to be¬
come manager again of the Postal.
