Injured In Disaster
Mr*. Irene Johnson Turnell is I
recuperating at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. N.
son, after injuries sustained dur¬
ing the recent disaster at Warner
Robins.
Mrs. Turnell, who works at Rob
ins Air Force Base, was returning
home, on Thursday afternoon when
the storm struck. Rushing into the
nearest house, she and the people |
who lived there, sought refuge |
under a bed, which was the only
thing that saved them when the
house collapsed. Her home, in an-1

in fact, that it has attracted flow
er loving neighbors and tourists
from far and near. The flowers

dividual yards have been a source
of unlimited joy to all of us.

plants such as camellias, dogwood,
flowering peach, and other flow
ers and shrubs.

prices and paying for plants to
be planted on the Marshallville
streets.

erty owners. "

Church here, of which Mrs. R. L.
Thompson is president, was in
charge of the morning service, at
the church May 3. Mrs. Thompson
presided and introduced the guest
speaker, Miss Isabel Luce of Fort
Valley. Miss Luce is a returned
missionary. She spoke on her work
and experiences in Africa, which
included a visit to the leper colony
in the Belgian Congo.
Miss Luce is visiting Mr. and
Mrs. A. L. Luce in Fort Valley.
The Rev. A. A. Waite of the
Marshallville Methodist Church, is
with the United Evangelistic Mis¬
sion in Florida. He is preaching
at the First Methodist Church in
Arlington, Fla., May 3-8.

Emory J Celebrates
Parents’ Day
Oxford, Ga., April 23- —Parents’
Day at Emory at Oxford will be
held Friday, May 8. Dr. and Mrs.
Frank Vinson, parents of Frank
Vinson, Jr., of Fort Valley, along
with fathers and mothers from all
parts of Georgia and nearby states
have been extended an invitation
to the 116-year-old campus to join
with students and faculty mem¬
bers in an all-day celebration.
The planned activities will for¬
mally begin with chgpel assembly
at Allen Memorial Church. Penn
McWhorter of Winder, Ga., presi¬
dent of the Emory at Oxford stu¬
dent body, will preside. Norman
Goldman of Thomaston, Ga., mem¬
ber of the Emory at Oxford Stu¬
dent Body, will give the students’
welcome to parents. Mrs. Clarence
Finleyson, of Finleyson, Ga., will
give the response for the parents.
The guest speaker will be the
Rev. L. G. Ray, pastor of the
Park Memorial Baptist Church,
Tampa, Florida. He will be intro¬
duced by his son, Larry Ray, mem¬
ber of the Emory at Oxford stu¬
dent body. Dr. V. Y. C. Eady, dean
and division executive of Emory
at Oxford will officially welcome
everyone and make special an¬
nouncements. A musical program
will be presented by the Emory
at Oxford Glee Club under the
direction of Harold W. Mann.
