WSCS Will Hold
Combined Meeting e
A combined meeting of all the
groups of the WSCS will be held
on Monday afternoon, May 18, at
3:30 P.M. in the church parlors.
After an opening song and pray
er, new members of the society
will be prsented by Mrs. Ben
cher. Special membership
nition will be given by Mrs. C. H.
Mathews and Mrs. J. L. Douglas,
Rev. G. N. Rainey will give the
devotional and install the officers
for the new year. Mrs. Chester
Wilson will present the new' group
leaders and members of their re
spective groups.
A social hour will follow, with
hostesses from each group.

Highlighting the commence¬
ment season in Fort Valley will
be the band concert directed by
Prof. John G. Fletcher which will
be presented by the high school
band on Thursday evening, May
May 21, at 8:00 o’clock.
The membership of the band is
the largest to date and totals for¬
ty-two members. The members will
Wear their new uniforms which
were purchased this year.
The program will include many
familiar numbers, a few of which
are: •« Deep River Rhapsody”,
Washington and Lee Swing”,
“Mexican Hat Dance’ • • and other
popular selections.
There will be an admission
charge of twenty-five and fifty
cents.
Study Club Will
Hold Luncheon
The Fort Valley Study Club, of
which Mrs. Oliver I. Snapp is
the president, will close the club
year with a luncheon to be held
at the Pine Needles Country
at 1:00 Saturday.

Are Engaged
Fort Valleyans are pleasantly
interested in the announcement of
the engagement of Miss Mary
Anne Fesler of Gadsden, Alabama
and Robert Guy Wheeler, Jr., of
Atlanta, and Miami Beach.
The marriage will take place
June 20 at the Peachtree Christian
Church in Atlanta.
Miss Fesler is a student at Ag¬
nes Scott College. Mr. Wheeler
will graduate from the Southern
College of Pharmacy in June, re¬
ceiving his BS degree in pharmacy.
He is associated in business with
his father, Dr. R. G. Wheeler, ,in
the Wheeler Drug Stores in At¬
lanta and Miami. Dr. Wheeler
formerly Resided in Fort Valley
where he was associated with the
local Wheeler’s Pharmacy .

Family Reunion
At the home of Mrs. R. W.
Wheeler on College Street there
was a reunion of Mrs. Wheeler’s
immediate family Sunday, May
10, on the occasion of Mother’s
Day.
There were eleven of the chil¬
dren present, only Mrs. W. P.
Daniels of Nashville, Tenn., being
unable to attend because of ill-
ness.
Those present were: Mrs. Ann
Spires and Mrs. C. N. Sprott
Atlanta; Mrs. Denson J.
of Miami, Fla.; Mrs. J .W. Tonge,
of Bainbridge; Mrs. J. C. Nutt
and Mrs. Charles Zook of Fort

The family group enjoyed a mid¬

Missionary Society
W ill Meet Monday
The general meeting of the Wo¬
man’s Missionary Society the Bap¬
tist Church, will be held next Mon¬
day afternoon at 3:30 o’clock.
Circle Number 4 will be in
charge of the program.
The meeting will be directed by
the preside fc, Mrs. Claude M.
Houser.
Mrs. Edgar L. Duke will pre¬
sent the mission program.
DAR Meets With
Mrs. W. E. Lester
The Stephens
of the Daughters of the American
Revolution, of which Mrs. John
Averill of Montezuma is regent,
held the May meeting on Thurs¬
day, at the home of Mrs. W. E.
Lester, with Miss Florence Lester
as co-hostess.
Dr. John Wade had charge of
the program, and talked on The
Marshallville Foundation.
The Stephens Hopkins chapter
of DAR, founded in 190.3, includes
in the membership, the women of
Montezuma and Marshallville.
This will be the last meeting
until Septembe.

Mrs. J. P. Pughsley and little

rive Monday to spend several
weeks here with Mr. and Mrs.
Edgar L. Duke, Sr.
Miss Mary Beck Johns, student
in the Pharmaceutical Department
of the University of Georgia, and
a member of the senior class spent
the weekend in Fort Valley with
Mrs. M. F. Johns and family. Miss
Beck will be graduated in June. ’
Lt. Emory Wilson of Fort Ben- j
ning was among the Mother’s Day
visitors in Fort Valley. He was
with Dr. and Mrs. C. N. Perdue
at their home in North Fort Val¬
ley. Lt. Wilson will receive his
diploma in June from Mercer Uni¬
versity, having completed his work
there March 19th. He is serving
with the Quartermaster Corps, in
Port Benning.
Mr. and Mrs. William D. Mar¬
tin, recntly of Highlands Air Force
Base, California, were guests last
week of Dr. and Mrs. C. N. Per¬
due. Mrs. Martin is the former
Miss Tot Wilson of Fort Valley.
Mr. Martin recently received his
discharge from the U. S. Air Force
and he and Mrs. Martin have mov¬
ed to Tecumseh, Michigan, where
they will muke their home.
Mrs. Edwina Houser Collins
and son, Joe, of Thomasville were
guests for a few days of Mr. and
Mrs. John A. Houser.
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff C. White
had as their guest for Mother’s
Day, Mrs. White’s mother, Mrs.
C. W. Mathews, of Warrenton.
Mrs. Oliver I Snapp spent sev¬
eral weeks at her home, College
ter, Mrs. Edward Lummirs, in Co¬
lumbus.
Mr. and Mrs. Herschel N. Pol¬
lard have returned from Clarkes
ville, Tenn., where they were call¬
ed by the death of Mr. Pollard’s
father, the Rev. C. R. Pollard.
Mr. Pollard died at the age of
eighty years. The funeral service
was held in the church that was
founded by him during his many
years of active service in the
Christian ministi-y.
Attending the exercises of the
Mother’s Day season at Clemson
College, S. C., from Fort Valley,
were Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Stevens,
Mrs. Oliver I Snapp, Sr., and Mrs.
Oliver I. Snapp, Jr., where they
visited Jimmy Stevens and Oliver
I. Snapp Jr., students of the col
lege.
