Valley and a graduate of Fort
ley High School, which is
this wek by her parents, Mr.
Mrs. Louis Edgar Smisson, Sr.,
West Church Street.
After graduation here Miss
Smisson studied for a year at
Smith oCllege and later received
her degree from Duke University,
She later studied at Louisiana
State University, receiving a de
gree in Social Welfare and is now
associated with the Carter County
Public Welfare Department in Ten
nessee.
Lt. Harris is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Leo Butler Harris, of Castor,
La. He is a graduate of LSU and
is not stationed in the U.S. Army
at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The young
couple will temporarily reside at
Fort Sill.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL RECITAL
POSTPONEMENT ANNOUNCED
The Speech Recital of the Fort
Valley Grammar School which was
scheduled for the evening of May
22, has been postponed until Mon¬
day, May 25, and will be at the
high school auditorium at eight
o’clock.
The students will be represen¬
tatives from the first to seventh
grades of the school.

er Friday afternoon, May 15, at
the home of Lancaster, Persons
Street, at 3:30 o’clock.
Assisting the hostesses in en¬

The Junior and Intermediate
Girls’ Auxiliaries of the Baptist
Church, with Mrs. W. C. Cooper
and Mary Faye Crowe as counse¬
lors, met on Friday afternoon in
the assembly room of the church.
Mrs. M. G. Bell was in charge
of the program and reviewed the
book, Jottings from Japan, by Er¬
nest Wells. Mrs. Beil formerly liv¬
ed in Japan.

WMU Meets With
Mrs. C. M. Houser
The Woman’s Missionary

Mrs. Claude M. Houser, the
president, presided at the meet¬
ing. Features of the program di¬
rected by Mrs. Edgar Duke, Jr.,
included a Bible study presented
by three members of the Girls’
Auxiliary.
Miss Anne Peavy, a missionary
to Japan, spoke of the mission
work in that land. She plans to re¬
turn to the field in August.
Mrs. Norman E. Hodges spoke
of the WMU meeting in Houston,
Texas, and of the messages of
missionaries on the program who
are serving in the home fields and
in foreign lands.

| bara Carless to Mrak Flynn of
Worland Wyoming, the marriage
to take place May 21) at home.

engagement of Miss Barbara Car
lese Aultman and Mark Flynn of
Worland, Wyoming, is of cordial

Miss Aultman graduated from
Fort aVlley High School and is
now a student at Asbury College,
Wilmore, Kentucky, where she is
a member of the senior rlass and
will rereive an AB degree on June
3.
Mr. Flynn is a member of the
senior class of Asbury College and
will receive a BS degree from
that insitution in June. He will en¬
ter a medical college in the fall.
The marriage ceremony will be
performed by the Rev. Dick Horne.
The young couple will make

Mrs. William Homer Hopkins,
of Fort Valley announces the en¬
gagement of her daughter, Ger¬
aldine Hopkins, to Grady Nelson
Forrester of Watertown, Tenn.,
the marriage to take place June
27 at the Fort Valley Baptist
Church a four-thirty o’clock in
the afternoon.
The above announcement is re¬
ceived with cordial interest! in
Fort aVlley where the bride-to-be
was reared and is a graduate of
Fort Valley High School. She at¬
tended Maryville College, Mary¬
ville, Tenn., after graduation here,
receiving a degree from that in¬
stitution, She is now a member
of the faculty of Lakewood
Schools, Lakewood, Ohio. She is
the daughter of Mrs. William Ho¬
mer Hopkins and the late Mr.
Hopkins of this city.

the home of Mrs. Chester Wilson,
newly elected president on Thurs¬
day afternoon, May 14.
Names were drawn for the
new groups and plans were dis¬
cussed for the work of the com¬
ing year. Twenty seven members
were present.
