Governor Declares
Religious Faith To
Rid ( Communism
The one great force which will
ultimately destroy Communism i;
the deep religious faith of all free
people of the earth, Governor Her¬
man Talmadge declared last week
in a speech made at commence¬
ment exercises held at the Man
daughter of W. H. Harris, this
city, and has many other relatives
and friends here.
THE LEADER TRIBUNE Thursday, June 4, 1953
Service Held
The Commencement Service of
Fort Valley High School was held
Sunday evening, May 81, at the
Methodist Church and the Rev.
Norman E. Hodges was the speak¬
er. His subject was “Learn from
Christ.’’ and the Scriptural basis
of his message was ‘Take my yoke
upon you and learn from Me, from
the Gospel of Matthew.
Mr. Hodges in directing the
message to the forty-five members
of the 1953 graduating class, and
the large congregation assembled,
emphasized the highest in degret
of learning^ -c<fnseoration, obed¬
ience and service to Christ. H<
spoke of the Saviour as the Magtei
Teacher> and the esKcntiality t (
guccess and that which endureS)
as necessitating the guidance and
blessing . of God
The service was djrected hy th ,
pastor of the church> the Rey G
N. Rainey. The Scripture lesson
was read by the Rev. J. O. Fuller
and the prayer of benediction was
by the Rev. Hugh Saussey.
Chester public schools.
The governor, appearing as the
guest of the faculty and members
of the senior class, characterized
Communism as “the doctrine that,
knows no God.” in his forceful
talk.
“There can never be any corn
promise between religious faith
and Communism and I am deeply
pleased that the young people of
the nation are evincing such deep
interest in the fight waged against
this nefarious doctrine,” the gov¬
ernor sad.
“Communism is atheism. It de¬
nies the existence of God and de¬
nies the individual the right to.
wor;sh ip, the governor comtin
ued.
Talmadge said that the Com¬
munists are annihilating all or
ganized religion among the peoples
they control. He warned that this
.s the same prescription they have 1
for us.
“Some day, I hope >n the not
too distant future, when the Reds
have overplayed their hand, there
will be a great religious surge
which will wipe from the face of
humanity this cancer of Commun¬
ism.
“I believe that the Communists
utter contempt for religion will be
the one thing that ultimately prov
proves their undoing. Rejection of
morality cannot long endure.
