Carol Qianning truly believes that “Diamonds Are A Ciri’s
Best Friend” however, she admits that 50.000 silver dollars will
“do in a pinch.” Here Miss Channing is frolicking in 50,000 real
silver dollars with Malcolm L. Stewart, President of the National
Ke-taurant Association. The silver dollars ore a part of one of die
exhibit* at the restaurant show in Chicago which is bung attended
by more than 40,000 of the nation’* lop restaurant owners and
nuble, too.
Here, for example, are excerpts
from some of the letters he has
received:
Leslie Edgeomb, president of
Edgcomb Steel Co., Philadelphia,
wrote: “Your talk on the poten
tial of the State of Georgia was
most interesting to me, to the ex.
tent that I would like to ask if it
would be possible for me to ob
tain a copy of your address. In our
future plans for expansion, we
may consider looking into your
state."
In another letter to Thomas B.
McCabe, president of Scott Paper
Co., Chester, Pa., who was his
host at the luncheon, Mr.
comb said: “I was particularly
terested in Gov. Vandiver’s com
ments on the growth of Georgia,
We are giving considerahl e
thought to locating our fifth plant
in that area.”
W. E. Dillard, president and gen
oral manager of the Central of
Georgia Railway, with home
fiees in Savannah, wrote the gov
ernor this:
“I was so tremendously impress
ed w:th the fine selling job you did
at the luncheon in Philadelphia
that I cannot resist writing to let
you know of my personal appre¬
ciation and how much I think it
will mean to Georgia . . . Your
fine talk will certainty make our
jobs much easier in our efforts
to interest industry throughout
the country in Georgia.”
Tourist Praises
Police Chief and
Mayor in Letter
W. Irving Rigdon, mayor and
recorder of the City of Fort Val
ley, last week received a letter
commending both himself and G.
W. Cochran, chief of police, for
their courtesy and consideration
to a tourist detained on a speed¬
ing charge.
The letter follows.

Mr. Irving Rigdon,
Recorder of Fort Valley,
Georgia
ODear Mr. Rigdon:
I drove through your city with
my wife on my way to Floe^’a
and was given a ticket for speed¬
ing by a city police officer on May
11. I was taken to the police sta
tion, that is, I followed the po
liceman in my car. 1 was allowed
to take up the matter with your
police chief, Grady W. Cochran.
1 try to follow speed regulations
at virtually all times and it is
possible that I speeded up a little
to get across an intersection on a
green light but certainly bad been
following your posted speed signs
and did not knowingly or wilfully
violate the law.
Youir chief of police, Mr. Coch¬
ran, was most courteous and un¬
derstanding and considerate and
released me from having to return
for a trial on a speeding charge,

statements like “Piles have ceased to

A lot of work goes into setting
up the lanes and a lot of people
give their time and service so all
of us will have safe cara to drive.
Manning the lanes are mechan¬
