Sanitation Survey
For Mar shall ville
Dr. Samuel T. Mercer, District
Director of Public Health for the
Macon County Health Department,
announced today that plans have
been made to conduct a Mock-by
block Sanitation Survey in Ogle
thorpe, Montezuma and Marshall
ville, in cooperation with the Ga.
Dept of Public Health, Aedes Ae
gypti Eradication Project. Dr,
Mercer said “Sanitation deficien
cies will be recorded such as im
proper garbage storage, rubbish,
discarded appliances, auto bodies,
poor drainage, water containers,
vacant lot conditions, unstacked
lumber and discarded automobile
tires.”
This Environmental Sanitation
Survey is a planned approach to
the solution of basic community
sanitary problems. As such, the
survey is of interest not only to
lie health officials, but also to
city and county officials, civic le
aders. and the general public. The
survey is a three-phase undertak
ing to: (1) Determine frotn avail
able facts and survey data the en
vironmental conditions ard sani
tation deficiencies, (2) Promote
public acceptance of recognized
sa: itation standards through pub
lic education and, (3) Secure citi
zen and governmental support and
cooperation in correcting sanita
tion deficiencies.
In conclusion Dr. Mercer stated
that Macon County is one of a
number of counties in Georgia in
which the larvae of the yellow
fever mosquito has been found
and the complete eliminatios of
trash and discarded water holding
receptieles is the first step in the
elimination of this dangerous
threat to health.
