Mr. Malcolm C. Blount, Assis
tant Professor of Agronomy an
nounces that the Agricultural
Summer Training Program at the
Fort Valley State College has in
creased from one participating
student in 1963 to 54 in 1968-
All levels of Agronomy students
are reported to take part in this
on the job program. Their train
irk will involve soil survey work,
pond design and construction, soil
conservation, design and laying
out terraces, planning farm units
ard forestry in such states as Al
abama, Connecticutt, Georgia, In
diana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania
and West Virginia.
The program serves as a source
by which many students are hired
upon completion of their under
graduate studies at Fort Valley
State. Thomas E. Harris, William
S. Harris, Benjamin Smallwood
ard Joe L. Berry, all graduating
seniors, axe recipients of jobs
through these media.
Thomas Harris has been em
ployed as a soil scientist in Ur
bana, Ill.; William S. Harris, who
manages a 500 acre farm will join
the Health Survey Consultants
firm in Wellesby Hill, Mass.; Ben
jamia Smallwood will join the Soil
Conservation Staff in Indiana;
and Joe L. Berry is considering
a position with Ortho Chemical
(Alabama) Division of Standard
Oil Products.
The Agriculture Division has
strengthened its programs thru
the inclusion of an agricultural
Mechanics Program which is to go
into effect very soon. It is pra
jected that the number of majors
will increase by 35-40 beginning
this coming fall.
