Edward Joseph Gowen, Jr., son of
Mr. Edward Joseph Gowen, Sr. of
Brookly, New York, at the Fort
Valley Methodist Church with the
Rev. G. N. Rainey officiating at
double ring ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage by
her uncle, Julius T. Shy, wore a
gown of white peau de soie and
reembroidered Alencon lace. Her
veil of illusion was held by a head
piece of lace satin roses, outlined
with seed pearls. She carried a
cascade bouquet 'of roses ard step
honitis, centered with a white ore
hid.
Bridal attendants wore floor
length gowns of serrano, featur
ing A line skirts and Empire wai
sts styled with wide square neck
lines. Their bouffant veils were
held by satin roses. The brides

of honor.
She wore mint green, and car
ried a colonial bouquet of white
daisies. Bridesmaids were Miss
Beth Jones, Miss Linda Leigh
Burgess, Miss Pegigy Jones, and
Miss Melissa Shy. They were gow
ned alike in yellow, and carried
colonial bouquets of yellow dais
ies.
The groloms cousin, Jerry Car
ner, served as best man. Ushers
were Mr. Lou Culpepper, Mr. Bry
ant Culpepper, Mr. Mallard Shy,
Mr. David Carner.
Mrs. George M. Haslam, Jr . was
ohrgarist, and Thomas R. Hunni
cutt was soloist. The Church was
beautifully decorated with tall
arrangements of emerald fern,
vhite tree candelabra
holding white tapers,
Immediately following the wed
ding ceremony, a reception was
held in the Church parlor. Guests,
were greeted by Mrs. D. N. Her-
bert. Mrs. Jerry Carner kept

The Brides table, all in
-ield a four tiered wedding cake,
decorated with hand made roses,
.opped with satin weddings bells,
which was balanced by a beauti
ful five (branch silver candlelabra,

candles.

For traveling, the bride wore a
yellow linen suit with white acces

.redding bouquet was her corsage,

April 25th.

and Miss Lelia Mae Rioyal gave
Miss Shy a Shower-Tea at the
home of Mrs. Anderson on April
27.
On Monday, April 29, Mr. and
Mrs. George M. Haslam, Sr., and
Mr. and Mrs. George M. Haslam,
Jr. entertained for Miss Shy and
Mr. Gowen with a dinner at their
home on Anderson Avenue.
Mrs. Carolyn Ruffio and Mrs.
Newton Jordan entertained Miss
Shy with a mescellaneous shower
at the home of Mrs. Jordan on
May 4.
On May 13 Miss Kathy Bryant,
Miss Bobbi Jones, Miss Louise
Smith, and Miss Anne Bland en
tertained Miss Shy with a per
sonal shower at the home of Miss
Bryant on Persons Street.

E. Church in Fort Valey, Georgia,
Sunday Afternoon July, 1968, at

Mrs. Clara W. West will serve
guest speaker. Mrs. West is the
wife of the Rev. J. H. West of
Thomson, Georgia; Associate Pro
fessor of Education at The Fort
Valley State College and is a dyn
amic speaker.
