ly announced 1969 wheat program
which differ from 1968 - program
provisions are a smaller national
allotment and the offer of pay
ment for diverting additional acr
eage below the allotment to all
participating farmers, according
to J. D. Holland, Chairman, Peach
Agricultural Stabilization and Con
servation Service Committee.
Also, domestic marketing cert
ificates will he issued on 43 per
cent of the projected production
of the participating farm’s aere
age allotment; this figure was 40
percent for 1968.
In announcing) the 1969 wheat
program, Secretary of Agriculture
Orvl '1 L. Freeman said that the
reduced national acreage allot
ment of 51.6 million acres should
make it possible to strengthen the
farm prices and to reduce the
carryover by around 100 milliori
bushels. (The 1969 wheat allot
ment is 13 percent below the 1968
allotment.) With normal yields,
production from the 1969 allot
ment should total about 1.3 billion
bushels, compared with about 1.55
billion bushels expected from the
1968 crop.
Farmers signing up in the vol
untary wheat program can qual
ify for price-supporrt loans and
purchases, domestic marketing
certificates, payments for divert
ing acreage below their allotments,
and alternative cropping options.
Diversion payments at the max
imum rate authorized by law' will'
be offered to farmers under the
wheat program for planting:
less than their acreage allotment
and diverting this land to conser
virig uses. The farmers may div
ert up to one-half of his farm’s
wheat acreage allotment, and div
ersion payments - - based on the
projected yield of the allotment
acres diverted - - will be at the'
rate of 50 percent of the county
loan rate.
Farms with 1969 allotments of
21.7 acres or less will be able to
divert the entire allotment for
payment. Payments will (be
ingent upon a conserving use of
diverted acreage.
Price-support loans on 1969
crop wheat will continue to be av
ailable at a national average of
$1.25 per bushel. This is expected
to be approximately $1.34 for
Peach County as in 1968. Total
price support equal to 100 percent
of parity will 'be available on that
part of the production represent
ing the farm’s share of wheat all
ocated for domestic use. The mar-

keting certificates will make up
the difference between parity (as
of July 1, 1969) and the loan rate.
Other features of the 1969 wheat
program will be much the same
as thpse for the 1966 crop.
Chairman Holland said that
basic program participation plus
low allotments are key factors of
the 1969 wheat program. The acr
eage reduction target — including
diversions — is about 18 percent.
Wheat growers themselves will
take these actions if they want to
be fully successful in reducing
stocks and strengthening market
prices for the 1969 wheat crop.
