quiz show When I finally made it to
the taping of "The Joker is Wild" I
won seven games and earned prizes
and cash in excess of $24,000. Can you
believe it?
I keep hearing that you can't get the
show in middle Georgia, and if not.
well 1 am making a tape of the whole

The shows are supposed to be aired on
May 15-22. You will spot me easily, the
man who keeps passing out. I really did
trv to maintain my composure and not
embarrass anyone but by the time 1
had won the fifth game and the car I
was completely bananas.
Ihe prizes I won include a trip for

Agression cookies /
by Rose Simmons
They say bread bakers are happy
people because they can pound out all
their frustrations on that helpless hunk
of dough. The more they beat it, the
better the bread.
We could all, children included,
use a Jitrie outlet for frustrations and
anger So here ts a cookie recipe that
may become your children’s favorite
treat, and it might not have anything to
do with how they taste.
They're called aggression cookies.
You’ll need three cups of brown sugar,
three cups of butter or margarine, six
cups oatmeal, three cups flour and one
tablespoon soda
THE KID’S JOB
Put all ingredients in a large howl
and mash, knead, squeeze and pound
This is the kids’ job and it's the most
important part of the recipe The more
aggression you put into the dough, the
better the cookies will taste, so tell
them to give it all they've got.
To complete the recipe, form the
mixture into small balls and put them
on an ungreased cookie sheet and dip Butter the
the bottom of a small glass
glass into granulated sugar Mash the
balls fiat. Butter the glass once or
twice, but dip it in sugar after mashing
each ball
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12
minutes. The recipe makes about 15
dozen cookies They often run together
to form large cookies because of the
large amount of butter in the recipe.
Remember, making these cookies is
more important than how they look or
taste
LEARN TO CONTROL
For children of any age, you may
need to remind them of two things
before they get to work on rhe dough.
Stress the importance of dean hands,
and reassure them they can pound the
dough Sometimes it's really hard for
children, especially preschoolers, to
understand that this rime it's really
okay ro get their hands gooey and be
rough with something.
The big lesson for children is to learn
ro control when and how they let off

1 am truly grateful for the prizes but
mostly I am pleased that I did not look
like a complete idiot. All of those little
hits of information that have stuck in
my head for years cluttering up my
brain finally came in handy,
In complete seriousness, I would like
to thank all of you who gave me your
support during the time of watting to
get on the show. So many of you let me
know you were following right along
each week in the paper and that I was

couldn't have done it without you.
Together we showed California that
just because we talk Southern doesn't
mean we are stupid. Take that "Dukes

Now all 1 have to do is wait six
months and apply again to be on

ready for "Tic Tac Dough", I’ll just
have to read a complete set of
encyclopedias between now and then.
Also last week, my wife Terry and I

steam. They can and should vent their
frustrations on the dough, hut don’t let
it carry over to the family cat. Part of
the luxury of letting out your anger is
to know when to rein it in again.
CLOSE TO SADNESS
Many of us were brought up on the
notion that anger is wrong, that we
should feel guilty for being angry. For
starters, get that notion out of your
head Anger is one of a whole spectrum
of natural emotions; it should be
expressed along with love and sadness.
In fact, sadness and anger are very
close for a child. Often sadness will be
expressed through anger. They may be
angry because they don't want to feel
sad or hurt; they may not be happy
with themselves or they may have
failed at something; they may be lonely
or anxious about something
Whatever the reason, you can do
more than stand by and wait for the
anger to pass. Little things like
compliments for good behavior,
physical exercise to let off steam, no
temptations to break rules, and
displays of affection, help the

Sylvester there hut I have never been
in an audience before where they
applauded the credits. I think a lot of
people who work behind the scenes
were there.
The movie is a bomb but it was nice
to be invited for the screening. Lately it
seems every other movie I go to sec is a
real turkey. This film gives you a good
chance to look at Stallone but that is
all. It is a really contrived story about
terrorism in New York. Lindsey

TRY REASONING
Don't forget your sense of humor If
you catch it early enough, some
children can he teased out of a

PC schools recognized
Peach County school system was
recognized this week for meeting
public school standards set forth by the
Georgia Board of Education.
In notifying Ernest R. Anderson,
Peach County school superintendent
that the system was standard, State
Schtx)! Superintendent Charles
McDaniel said, "Since the standards
were first adopted and applied 12 years
ago, they have become increasingly
difficult to reach. You and your staff
are to be congratulated for the
outstanding job you are doing in
educating the children in your
system.
In addition to the system’s receiving
a standards certificate, five schools in
the system meeting standards received
a certificate.
School standards are applied to
every school system and every school

in the state. The Georgia Board of
Education is presently redesigning the
standards program to reflect con
temporary opinion and research as to
society’s expectations for its public
schools. Certain of the standards
applied this year were on a fact-finding
basis only. Required standards were
those mandated by law or state board
policy. The state board will determine
this year which of the fact-finding
standards will he included in the
program for the 1981-82 school year.
According to McDaniel, the purpose
of standards is to give Georgia public
schools students and administrators
— a measure of excellence toward
which to work. All schools and systems
do not meet all standards immediately,
but they set directions and steps to
achieve them.
