First aid for cuts and abrasions
by Ron Borders
Peach Co. 4 H er
Everyone should know how to give
first aid The time and place where ac
j udents First aid happen are unpredictable life,
may save a prevent
serious infection or a small injury from
becoming more serious
To administer first aid for a cut or
abrasion immediately cleanse the
wound and surrounding skin with soap
and warm water Hold a sterile pad
firmly over the wound until the
bleeding stops. Then change the pad
and bandage loosely with a triangular
or roller bandage Replace the sterile
pad and bandage as necessary to keep
them dean and dry.
First aid is just one of the many areas
of safety I have studied in the 4-H pro¬
ject. I have also learned about storm
safety, power mower safety and elec¬
trical safety

their winter clothes and bring (Hit
spring wardrobe With this change
many of us are in a clothes-buying
mood.
You don’t have to run to a store to
satisfy this urgent need In the 4-H
Fashion Revue project I have found
that 1 can make my own outfits.
As a Junior 4-H'er, 1 will be
modeling a dress at this year's District
Project Achievement. The dress I have
made has an elasticized waistline, side
seam pockets and set-in sleeves with
buttoned cuffs
Cross stitching
by Jill Holland and Holly Nelson.
Peach Cot nty 4 H ers
Cross stitching has become a very
popular craft for all ages. We have
been cross stitching for four years
Holly’s grandmother, Mrs. Mildred
while “telling how.” 4-H’ers actually
make or do something (step by step)
and have a finished product to show, or
tell how by talking and showing visuals
like charts, drawings, models or
photographs
4-H’ers are also judged on their
record b<x>ks. The 4-H’ers record what
they have done in various 4-H projects,
activities and competitions.

Grahl taught us the basic stitches and
we have been learning every since.
This year at District Project
Achievement we will present a
demonstration on "Basic Cross
Stitching" in the Junior Leisure Team
Project.
There are many ways to use cross
stitching skills besides just pictures.
You can cross stitch bookmarkers,
shins, and pillows also.
