Johnson of Santa Clara, California, son

take place on August 27 at Saint
Clement's Episcopal Church in
Berkeley, California, followed by a
reception at the home of Dr. and Mrs

Francisco Bay.
The bride-elect was an honor
graduate and class valedictorian at
Peach County High School. She
received her Bachelor of Science in
Electrical Engineering with majors in
computer science and math science

Marine Pfc Victor E. Neal, son of Sara
Neal of Route 1, Fort Valley, has
departed on a deployment to Camp
Lejeune, N.C He is a member of 3rd
Battalion, 6th Marines.
The unit will spend six months
overseas as pan of the Marine Corps
Unit deployment program. The concept
is designed to rotate whole battalions
or squadrons at a time instead of
individuals at separate intervals. In
this way, unit integrity is retained and
the actual time they spend overseas is
shortened.
During the deployment, the corn
rnand will conduct training exercises
with the U S. 7th Fleet and units of
allied nations.
Surprise birthday
Hudman Evans honored his
wife, Virginia, with a surprise birthday
party on July 22 in Atlanta Their
mothers, Mrs Rosa Evans and Mrs
Mary Emma Rumph, both from Fort
Valley, were present. Also many other
relatives and friends from both
Atlanta, Griffin, and Fort Valley were
present
It was a most enjoyable occasion

by Rolm Telecommunications Cor¬
poration in Santa Clara as a product
support engineer.
The groom-elect received his Ph.D in
Electrical Engineering from Rice
University, where he had previously
earned bachelor's and master's
degrees in the same field. A national
merit scholar, he was named to
membership in Sigma Xi and Tau Beta
Pi, and was the recipient of the Brown
Engineering Award and the Rolm
Fellowship. He is employed by Rolm as
a senior member ot the advance
technical and research staff, and has
presented papers to engineering
convocations in Boston, Mass.,
Monterey, California, and Paris,
France.

Tim Powell, son of Beverly and Billy
Powell of Fort Valley, has been
inducted into the University of Georgia
chapter of (/amnia Beta Phi, national
honor society.
The society- selects students who
rank among the top 15 per cent of their
respective class,
Attends laser clinic
Dr Joseph Citron, an opthalmoiogy
associate of Dr Willis Webb of Eon
Valley, recently attended a course in
the use of a special laser for the
treatment of certain eye diseases. The
training was conducted at the mam
plant of the laser's manufacturer in
Palo Alto, California, the Coherant
Optical Company
The laser, called the YAC laser
because of its components, yttrium,
argon and garnet, is said to be the first
used in the treatment of cataracts The
course was designed to meet the needs
of doctors who have previous
experience in the use of lasers in
treating diseases of the eye.

In a setting of quiet beauty' Miss
Sharon Elizabeth Smith and Clifton
Harold Locke exchanged their wedding
vows at four o'clock in the afternoon on
Saturday, lune 11, 1983, in the Central
Baptist Church in Americus, The Rev.
Hubart Arnold performed the double¬
ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of the late
Mr and Mrs. Elvis T. Smith Jr., of
Fort Valley. Parents of the groom are
Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Locke, Butler
The beauty of the sanctuary was
highlighted by growing ferns and
candelabra bearing glowing white
tapers.
The bride was becomingly attired in
a romantic gown of candlelight lace,
designed with a high neckline, sheer
cape sleeves, and a graceful, slightly
gathered skin. She wore flowers in her
hair and carried a nosegay combining
white, lavender and yellow flowers
The bride’s honor attendant was
Terrt Lynn Mullis of Fort Valley, and
bridesmaids were Debra Slaughter and
Sandra Smith, both of Americus
The attendants wore gowns of pastel
lavender with a small floral print and

Following the wedding service a
reception was given in the church
social hall. The bride’s book was kept
by the bride's sister, Caron
Corneliason of Dalton.
The bride's cake, groom's cake and
other refreshments were served by
Lisa Trimble, Moultrie; Lesa Harris,
Fort Valley; and Leona Turner, Beuna
Vista.
After visiting with their guests the
bridal couple left for a wedding trip to
Florida They will reside in Americus
at 16th Green. Mrs. Locke is employed
as an R.N. at the Americus and Sumter
County' Hospital, and Mr Locke is an
employee of the Buckeye Corporation
