It was a masterpiece for Coach Greg
Thompson of Morris Brown College.
His team performed to perfection the
art of the forward pass. Junior quarter¬
back Leonard Camel picked the secon¬
dary of Fort Valley State College to
shreds in the early going A 34-yard
completion to wide receiver Felix
Williams set up an ll-yard strike to
Neal Cambridge for a Morris Brown TD
with only 1:21 seconds gone in the first
period
The Wildcats of Fort Valley State
College enjoyed the possession of the
football for only three downs before
having to kick it away In what could be
considered a mild shock, Leon Win¬
frey, the swift running back for Morris
Brown, got behind the secondary of the
Wildcats and took a 53-yard strike from
Leonard Camel for yet another
Wolverine TD. Dexter Simmons’ kick

Another impression

showed an impressive amount of
improvement, especially in the first
half of the game Friday night
agamsi the Crisp County Cougars
Peach County showed early that
the team came to win the game
You could tell that Crisp line
blocking was going to be pivotal in
the game
For the first half of the gatne 1
was on the Crisp County sideline,
taking in the sights and the sounds
It was there that I met my friend
from Cordele, a manager of a
sewing plant, who likes to take
pictures of the Cougars for the
newspaper He remembered his
encounter a year ago in Fort Valiev
with Peach C ounty's number one
ambassador, Grover Towns, and he
was still burning Even so he was
complimentary about how the
Trojans were executing in the first
half
l found out for sure that the
Crisp coach called a pass on the
fourth and long, deep in their own
territory, just as the first quartet
ended That had to be the dumbest
call of the night Of course it led to
Peach County’s first score and

Tha LaadefTrtbune, Fort Vail Georgia, Thursday. September 29, 1983
was wide bringing the score to
MBC-13, FVSC-0.
After falling behind 13-0, Coach
Doug Porter seemed to have waved his
magic wand at quarterback Kevin
Parker. A 16-yard completion to runn
ing back Kenny Barrow and a 20-yard
strike to David Monds put the Wildcats
in business inside the Wolverine
17-yard line. Ronald Wilson found
daylight for eight yards, while Kenny
Barrow mustered three yards to the
seven. On a roll out Kevin Parker, fin¬
ding his receivers covered, scampered
seven yards for a Wildcat TD with 7:45
remaining in the first quarter Kevin
Oliver kicked the PAT making the
score MBC-13, FVSC-7.
The Wolverines were not finished as
they came back on the arm of quarter¬
back Camel and scored once again as
Camel found Leon Winfrey open in the
Barber St Beauty Shop on Market
Street. Advance tickets are $3 00 for
FVSC students with ID, $4.00 for
children and othar students, and $5.00
for adults All tickets will be $6.00 at

control the game with a 7-0 lead
shortly thereafter.
The sidelines on the Crisp side
were mighty quiet when Peach took
a 14-7 lead, but then the
complexion of the game changed
when Crisp matched down the field
late in the first half. That passing
attack was unlike we have seen so
far this ycat; it is my opinion that
the Crisp quarterback is one of the
best passers 1 have seen in recent
years. Of course the Cougars
picked up that passing attack
immediately as the second half
started, and the game was over for
the Trojans,
For anyone who is interested in
an unbiased opinion, let me offer
mine here: The Peach County
Marching Army scored a resound¬
ing vic tory over the Crisp County
hand 1 had the best’ seat in the
house for both performances as 1
sat on the curb at the edge of the
track next to the field 1 was close
enough to see expressions on
faces Certainly 1 was close enough
to hear
Take it from me — the band won
the show again this year !
Simmons kicked the PAT making the
score MBC-20; FVSC-7 at 1:48 remain¬
ing in the first period.
The first touchdown for FVSC was all
Kevin Parker needed to get the
Wildcats rolling again as he mixed his
plays well. Ronald Wilson, having his
best game since coming to FVSC, cap¬
tured valuable real estate while David
Monds, Y.N. Myers and Dale Casey
were on the receiving end. The Blue
Machine rolled closer as Kevin Parker
saw daylight and dove into the end
zone at 7:30 remaining in the second
period. Kevin Oliver's PAT was good
and made the score MBC-20, FVSC-14
After struggling for most of the first
half, the Blue Death Defense began to
raise its head. DuVaal Callaway made
the first of his three interceptions for
the night and gave the Blue Machine
offense a chance to take the lead. At
2:35 remaining, Kevin Parker found
Myers open for a Wildcat TD knotting
the score 20-20. Kevin Oliver’s PAT
was true and the Wildcats had taken a
lead they would never relinquish
Halftime’s score was FVSC-21,
MBC-20.
The second half saw the Blue Death
defense completely stop the Wolverines
as they came up with four interceptions
to stop the passing attack while the
running game was virtually noncxis
tent. Only running back Leon Winfrey
made the ground game respectable as

lege pool. Coach Susan Isner,
825-1889, will be able to give any addi¬
tional information to those interested

The Pisces attend meets about once
a month during the winter and these
take place on Saturdays. The first meet
will he in November
To the delight of the Wildcat fans,
the second half was a scoring parade.
Kevin Parker made a 22-yard pass to
Clyde Jackson that was set up on a
67-yard run from scrimmage by Ronald
Wilson Only a clip by Jackson
prevented Wilson from being inserted
into the Wildcats’ scoring book.
Ronald got his chance at the :03 mark
in the third quarter as he went over
from the three-yard line.
At 11:03 in the fourth period, Kevin
Parker found David Monds open in the
end zone and the fleet wide receiver
made a spectacular ovcr-thc-shoulder
catch for a 21-yard TD.
With 2:13 remaining in the game,
the Wolverines tried desperately to get
on the board again via the pass route.
The Blue Death defense, hurt for the
last time, found linebacker Charles
Aikens stepping into a Frank Wesley’s
pass and running, untouched, for a
32-yard TD, Carl Tyler ran the conver¬
sion attempt making the final score
FVSC-48, MBC-20. The Wildcats are 2
and 1 on the season while Morris Brown
faiis 1-3.
