Church Happenings
Parents and children
by Paul E. Rowland
The Bible has much to say about
parents and children. This is not
surprising because the family is the
bask unit of society. The reason that
we are having so much family trouble
today is that we have not followed
Biblical principles in bringing up our
children. One of the ten command¬
ments deals with the relation of
parents and children. The fourth
commandment says, "Honor thy
father and thy mother; that thy days
may be long upon the land which the
Lord thy God giveth thee. * *
The parents first responsibility is to
teach them about God and about how
God expects us to live. Parents are not
only exhorted to teach their children
about God; they are also told to set a
good example before their children.
Someone has said, “Parents must go
in the way they would have their
children go if they wish to train their
children in the way they should go.' *
The parent who teaches his child to
kneel by his bed to pray and never
prays himself may make the child
wonder if prayer is just for children
In the past few years we have heard
and talked much about prayer and
Bible reading in the public schools.
What about in our homes? Do we have
daily Bible reading and prayer with
our children? How docs it sound to our
children if we have much to say about
prayer in the schools and no prayer
and Bible reading is heard in the
home
The fundamental duty of all children
is to obey their parents in the Lord
Four reasons are given why they
Bible Class
to continue
The Community Bible Gass will
continue this Thursday evening at 8
p.m. It is being held each Thursday at
8 p.m. in the chapel of the Habersham
Funeral Home This Bible Gass is
sponsored by the Presbyterian
Evangelistic Fellowship (known as the
REF) The class is being led by the
Rev. Paul Rowland, as Associate
Evangelist with the PEF The class is
studying the Book of First Peter it is
not too late for you to get started.
Come this Thursday. Everyone is
welcome to attend this community
Bible Class meeting each Thursday
evening at 8 p.m. in the Habersham
Funeral Home. Bring your Bible and
invite someone else to come with you.
IF
should obey. First of all it is right. It is
a bask principle built into the very
structure of family life that those who
are immature, impulsive and inexper¬
ienced should submit to the authority
of parents who are older and wiser.
A second reason is that it is one of
the commandments of God.. It calls for
children to love, respect and obey their
parents. The third reason is that it is
for the best interest of the children,
“that it may be well with thee.”
The family was instituted by God to
be the basic unit of society. Today
Satan is making an all out attack
against the family. May God in His
grace raise up families where children
love their parents and honor
them. .May have Godly homes where
the Bible is read, and where Christ is
honored and obeyed.
