Crawford County Board of Education
honors Mr. Ernest Anderson
Mr. Ernest Anderson, Supennten
dent of Peach County School System,
is recognized by other superintendents
and boards of education throughout
Georgia for his outstanding leadership
in educational improvement.
Upon hearing of Mr. Anderson's
announcement that he would retire at
the end of this term in office, the
Qawford County Board of Education
passed the following resolution
commemorating his dedication and
diligent work during his forty years as
superintendent of the Peach County
School System:
WHEREAS' Mr. Ernest R. Ander¬
son has faithfully served as
Superintendent of the Peach County
School System for forty years, and
Police Department
arrests two for forgery
Two arrests have been made by the
Fort Valley Police Department and at
least one more may be forthcoming in
a case involving the theft and forgery
of some checks. The checks were
stolen from the residence of a Fort
Valley family on September 16 and
cashed at various locations between
September 14 and 19
Arrested and charged first with nine
counts of forgery in the degree
was Brenda Howard, 33, of 621 Pine
Street. She is currently lodged in the
Houston County Jail. Also arrested
was Jake Prator, 36, of Vienna Circle.
He was charged with 11 counts of
forgery in the first degree and has
been released after posting a $1000
bond.
The checks that were cashed were
for various amounts totalling $647.
SIMPLE BATTERY
A simple battery case that occurred
on August 30 has resulted in the arrest
Marshallville awarded
Block Grant
Hie City of Marshallville has been
awarded a state Community Develop
ment Block Grant in the amount of
$700,000, City Clerk Patsy Van Ostran
announced Tuesday, October 2. This is
the first time Marshallville has ever
been the recipient of a block grant, she
added. Contingent upon the receipt of
federal funds, the municipality will
have this sum at its disposal for use in
projects that aid low and moderate
income persons.

WHEREAS' under Mr. Anderson’s
leadership the Peach County School
System has developed outstanding
academic, literary and athletic
programs, and
WHEREAS' Mr. Anderson has
contributed to the improvement of
public education not only in Peach
County but throughout Middle
Georgia as well as the entire State of
Georgia, and
WHEREAS' Mr. Anderson is held
in high esteem by the superintendents
and boards of education in his
neighboring counties both personally
and for his contributions to public
education.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED
Friday of Clarence Huntley, of 810
Spillers Street,
According to reports from the
FVPD, Huntley and a Reginald Ross,
18 of Route Three, Fort Valley,
became involved in an argument on
Laconia Circle. As a result, Ross
suffered a cut lower lip and lost four
teeth.
Huntley was arrested on Sept. 28 by
Lt. Bobby Brown of the Peach County
Sheriffs Dept.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Mattie Pearl Rice, 45, of 210
Spencer Street, has been charged with
aggravated assault after allegedly
cutting one Lottie Harris of 306
Peachtree Street with a pair of
scissors. Ms. Harris was treated and
released from the Peach County
Hospital, suffering a cut on the left
forearm.
Ms. Rice was arrested Monday and
has been released on a $1000 bond.
Van Ostran stated that Marshall
ville's share of the monies will be used
for housing rehabilitation of 52 units,
street paving, some waterline recon
struction and storm drainage,
The city clerk expressed delight that
Marshallville had been selected for the
grant. “We’re all real thrilled," she
said.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
this resolution be spread as an official
part of the Crawford County Board of
Education Minutes.

deteriorating housing units, 4 have no
indoor plumbing facilities, while 2
have serious plumbing deficiencies.
Other units have leaking roofs,
improper and-or dangerous heating
systems, and electrical problems.
Culloden Mayor Edd Norris said he
was pleased the grant was approved.
"We have applied for this grant
several times,” he said. "We really
need better housing there and we are
thankful to get it."
In Jones County, the Sawmill
Quarters neighborhood is located on
(korgia Highway 22 near the city
limits of Gray. It is a predominately
black neighborhood consisting of 48
families, 96 percent of which are low
and moderate income households.
According to the grant, 24
substandard homes will be rehabili¬
tated. Four vacant homes will be
demolished along with 4 occupied,
dilapidated structures. Families in the
4 occupied homes will be relocated.
