friendly visiting, blood pressure
screening and retired senior volunteer
program.
Our telephone Reassurance Pro¬
gram is one that we are particularly
proud of. Helen Howard makes over
1,200 calls a month to people who are
shit-in, checking to see if all is well
and offering a helping hand. The sick
and shut-in eagerly anticipate their
call for die day. In cases where there is
no answer, a person from the center
usually goes out to check on that
person.
We have several volunteers in our
Friendly Visiting Program who visit
the sick and shut-in. They travel to
their homes, nursing homes, and
hospitals. Our volunteers in this phase
always seem to bring some joy to the
people they visit.
We provide daily exercising for our
participants at the center. On several
occassions we have gone down town to
the Fitness Studio operated by Mrs.
Harriett Steele for some get down
exercising to musk by Michael
Jackson and the likes. Our seniors
really enjoy that. Its really amazing to
see what our participants can and are
willing to do. They can really get down
if you know what I mean. They are
always eager to get on with the get on.
Each participant or a staff person is
designated daily to lead the exercises
However, Mr James Huntley, a blind
participant in the program is best at
getting it on.
Many of our participants are
enjoying the fruits of the FVSC
research pond where we are fishing
daily. Some have made great catches
while others have not been so lucky.
Local senior citizens
attend
Senior citizens of the Peach County
Center, which is sponsored by the
OAC, enjoyed a delightful Sunday
afternoon at Billy Boyd's birthday
party. The event was held at the
Macon Coliseum and is sponsored
annually by Mr. Boyd of the Macon
Telegraph. All senior citizens eighty
The writer of this article had her
catches lost to a senior citizen. We do
thank the research project and Dr
Melvin Walker of FVSC for allowing us
to fish at the pond and for giving us
some moments to remember about the
fish that got away.
Our center is under the directorship
of Ms. Imogean Mobley. She has been
with the center since 19®). If you have
