Service alternative to
The Probation office of the Peach
and Crawford Co. Superior Court, in
conjunction with the county and court,
has initiated a clean-up service for the
county.
Persons who have been convicted of
crimes which are basically property
type, or non-violent are being given
the choice to participate in this
operation in lieu of a fine or short
incarceration.
Some of those who arc convicted are
not able to pay a fine. The hours they
are scheduled to work depend on the
severity of the crime. Since much time
is taken up by the county to discover
why payment has not been made, this
service would save that time ami
money that the county could otherwise
use.
Arrangements have been made with
the county to provide transportation
and supervision. The service is being
performed on Saturdays and has so far
been a success. Five people were on
the program the first week and there
have been eleven present for the past 2
weeks The work will involve cleaning
up around the dumpsters in the
county, with indoor painting and
repair work planned for cold or bad
weather.
Approximately 220 hours has
already been put in by the workers.
When money paid for wages,
insurance, vacation and sick pay for
hirW employees is considered, about
$5.bO per hour per person will be
saved. This results in approximately
115,000 per year savings for the
county. Since Peach County does not

Knowles spent a week camping in the
Fort Wilderness Resort on the

enjoyed the shows, rides and the live
entertainment at night at the open
theatre at the camp ground plus a free
movie each night. On the way home
they spent one day at Silver Springs,
Fla. They also toured ‘‘Stephen
Fosters Memorial” at White Springs,
Fla. and "Agrirama” at tifton, Ga.
They left on Sept. 23 and returned
Sept. 30, 1984 and they all reported a
wonderful vacation.
