Cub Scouts hold
monthly meeting
The Byron Cub Scouts held their
monthly pack meeting September 24,
1984. We had five boys who received
their Wcbelos colors, service pi»JS and
various patches. J.J. Kahrs-colors,
three year service pine, and Aquanaut
patch, Chris Barker-colors, one year
service pin, a silver arrow patch, and a
gold arrow patch, Noone Rummel
colors, two year service pin, and a
silver arrow patch, Johnathan
Leslic-colors, and a two year service
pin, Mitch Reid-one year service pin.
These boys should be congratulated on
their hard work.

hours of6:30 to8:30 p.m., Oct. 31- We
are asking parents to please come and
be present to supervise children at this
program.
On October 26th. we have invited
surrounding nursing homes to join in
the Senior Citizens Day at our facility.
The public is invited to come in and
witness a day of excitement, sharing
and caring.

The Byron Scouts will be holding a
Chicken-que October 13- This event
will take place on Highway 49 across
from the TCR gas station in Byron
from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. This is a
means of raising money in our area for
Sustaining Membership Enrollment.
The money, for the most part, goes to
the Central Georgia Council of Boy
Scouts of America and is used to
support and maintain camps and other
activities of the Council.

Band washed cars to raise money

Byron Elementary School Band
members washed 125 cars Saturday,
October 6, to raise mopey to purchase
uniforms. Adult chairman of the event,
Mrs. Runae Perry, reported that
pledges of two to five cents per car still
were coming in Monday, October 8.
With this fund-raising project, the
group hoped to raise $1,000 of the
$5,000 that is needed to buy the
uniforms.
The 57 band members ranging from
fifth to eighth graders participated
well in the car wash, the chairman
reported. “There was a fantastic
turnout erf customers, ’ ’ she added. She

were taken in Saturday, she said. “We
did better this year than ever before
with a car wash,” Perry stated.
Friday, October 12, the band will
march in the halftime show at the
football game. November 2 the group
will perform in the Homecoming
celebration at the Peach County High
School. Sometime that month mem¬
bers plan to have a yard sale. A
concert is planned for February,
admission to which will be charged.
“We’ve got a lot of things planned,”
reported Michael Hutchinson, band
director,
Band members were pleased to have
their picture in the national magazine
for Hardee’s. At the May opening of
the fast-food restaurant in Byron, the
musical group performed.
Downtown merchants
to hold Sidewalk Sale
Fort Valley’s downtown merchants
will take to the sidewalks this weekend
for a "Columbus Day Sidewalk Sale.”
The participating merchants will be
putting many of their items on the
sidewalk and offering special sale
prices.
The sale will begin Saturday when

ony Guild is working with fourth
graders to encourage them in their
musical development. “We hope to
have some serious musicians in a few
years," he added.
