Recently Mrs. Lucia Gassett
submitted a recipe to The Covington
News, Covington, Ga. It happened
that this recipe turned out to be one of
the prize winners. She was given a
WestBend electric Wok pot. The
recipe is as follows;
Cauliflowcr in Lemon Sauce
1 med. size cauliflower cut into
floweret tes
salt
2 tablespoons butter
1 package cream cheese, 9 oz.
'/« cup heavy cream
1 packet bouillon powder
V* cup grated parmesan cheese

Many Fort Valleyans bade farewell
to two beloved citizens on Saturday. At
one o'clock they attended the
graveside services for Clyde "Jim
Barret, late husband of Mrs. Willie
Mac Barret. At two, three rows of cars
lined State College Drive near Trinity
Baptist Church where funeral services
were held for Mrs. J.D. (Felma
Dugger) McCrary. Family and friends
came from all of the U.S. Middle
Georgia was welt represented The
Rev. B. J. Lockhart, her pastor at
White Hill; Dr. Walter L. Blover, Jr.,
Moderator of the Union Baptist
Association with which Felma worked
as Youth Director; Sister Alberta
Rumph, Deacon Robert Church, all
participated. The Rev. Julius C.
Simmons delivered the eulogy and
John Taylor, Jr., sang "God Cares."
We pray that time will heal the hurt
which comes with such loss.
We could really be very empathic
with young Violet Adams when she
requested "When it rains, it pours,"
on Sunday. The Adams children lost
their father, Roosevelt Adams, a few
weeks ago. Their mother, Mrs. Violet
Adams, long time employee at the
meat counter, Thc Fort Valley State
College, is very ill. We hope that they
can find consolation in the other pan of
the song, "Jesus knows. » •
We arc glad to hear that our friend,
Albert Rumph is a home from the
hospital. Albert received injuries to his
wrist in an auto-accident.
We understand that Deacon John
Demons is out of the hospital and able
to walk where he wishes to go. Wile,
J ackie, was off to Atlanta to check on a
relative who is ili. Daughter, Jamehl
and her friend Andrcna Daniclly, told
the young folks at the Baptist Youth
Fellowship about their experiences at
computer camp this summer
It is good to know that our friend,
Sarah Harris, is out of the hosptaj and
able to return to her many social and
civic activities it a so pleasant to have
her visit on her rounds as Pink Lady at

Her mother, Sadie, reports that she

Black pepper
Grated rind of 1 lemon
Bring 5 quarts of salted water to a
boil. Add cauliflower; cook 2-3
minutes. Drain under cold water until
cool. Drain again. Melt butter in a
saucepan. Add cream cheese, and
whisk until smooth. Thin with cream,
Add bouillon powder and lemon juice.
Pour over cauliflower. Dust with
cheese, pepper and lemon rind. Bake
23 minutes at 350 degrees or until
bubbly.

When Jimmy and Frieda Rucker
came from Detroit, they were able to
convince his sister, Ruby Spear, that
she needed a short vacation. So she
joined them in a short visit to Florida

Several friends received the surprise
of their lives when the strong, healthy
voice of Eddie Mathis Ragin called to
say that she was doing nicely,

Fluellen who is steady in her visits of
the sick and Louise Pollock who sends
"Get Well” cards regularly,
Jesica Jemere Johnson came for a
short visit from Atlanta. She had a cold
and so held tightly to her "security
blanket’ ’ and to her grandmother,
Luctta McCrary.
It was good to see young Kevin and
to meet his little sister, Shane, Kevin
has grown quite a bit since we knew
him as a pre-schooler when he lived
with his Aunt Felma. They came down
with their mother, Vemelle.
Lavonne Snead Lowman was
Women’s Day Speaker at her brother’s
church in Rome, Georgia. Her
husband, Hal, children, Lil Hal and
Halisa went along for support.
Lavonne, family and friends are all
happy that Mr. George Snead, her
father, is out of the hospital and doing
nicely.
Just arrived
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Smisson,
(Sue) are the proud parents of a son,
Kevin, born September 30, 1984. He
weighed 7 lb. 12 or. and was bom at
the Medical Center in Houston
County.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs
Wesley B. Smisson and Mrs. Joe Lacy
and the late Mr. Lacy, all of Fort
Valley.
Welcoming his new brother home is
Blake, age 6.

Kimbo McMinn announce the arrival
of their first-bom, Brittany Lauren.
Lauren arrived at Memorial Medical
Center, Jacksonville, Florida, weigh¬
ing 10 lbs. 8 02 . on Sept. 27, 1984. The

Mrs. Joe Whittington of Fort Valley,
Ga, and Mrs. Jewel Bird McMinn of

Friends of Carla Hill will be sorry to
learn that she had a fall in Helen two
weeks ago. She has been hospitalized
in Marietta. We wish for her a rapid
recovery, and we hope that she will
soon be back on the j<i> in Fort Valley,

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hall
celebrated their 65th. wedding
anniversary on Tuesday, October 2.
We wish you more years of a happy
marriage.
Combining a business trip with
pleasure were Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy
Duke Last Tuesday they went to
Atlanta for several days. No doubt
they will go again almost immediately
to sec their daughter, Karen, who is
performing with an opera company
there

Mrs. Betty George has had her aunt
visiting her for several days.
Robert Sparks told us that his
daughter, Suzanne Runyan, and her
family have moved to the Orlando,
Florida area For awhile the Runyans
were living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Suzanne likes everything about
Orlando except the traffic, her dad
said In Tulsa, the children were able
to walk to school.
We know the Sparks are glad to

A chance encounter with the former
Sue Lester of Marshallville the other
day was delightful. News of her family
should be welcome to all of you who
knew Sue in high school hoe.
Sue is now Mrs. Bobby Ogletree of
Griffin. She has three children: a
daughter, Amanda Slade, who lives
with her husband in Charleston, South
Carolina. Amanda’s husband is in die
Navy; the two are expecting a baby in
February
Sue and Bobby have two
sons-Stuart, who is married and lives
in 1 Griffin. He works with his dad in the
insurance business. Stuart and his
wife, too, are anticipating parenthood
in just a few months. The second
Ogletree son, Jim, lives in Atlanta.
Both of the Ogletree boys are
graduates of the University of Georgia.
Sue is just as vivacious as she was in
high school-and even prettier, we
decided
Sue gave us news of the former
Martha Frederick of Marshallville.
Martha Ferris now lives in Macon. Her
two sons, Hank and Peter, are doing
well. Hank works with Simon and
Schuster, publishers in New York City,
while Peter works in the Chattanooga,
Tennessee, area.
Fort Valley families were well
represented among the contestants for
Westfield Homecoming Queen Friday
night.
Last week Mr. Lonnie Jones went to
Cadwell to help his sister, Mrs. Lula
Sanders, celebrate her 96th. birthday.
Then he visited friends and relatives in
Eastman.
