Valley Kiwanis Club’s annual
Ladies Night next Friday evening
at Pine Needles Country Club.
Although Miss Jerles is a
of Perry, she has strong ties
Fort Valley. She is the niece
Ann McGehee and AI Pearson,
both of Fort Valley. She is
granddaughter of the late Lawton
and Laurie Pearson. Her mother,
Mrs. Bill (Peggy) Jerles, was
reared in Fort Valley.
The current Miss Georgia is an
experienced entertainer having
performed at a number of national
occasions. She has a special love
for speaking and singing at chur¬
ches and youth meetings. She will
be introduced Friday night by her
Uncle Al.
At the Miss America Pageant,
Miss Jerles won the preliminary
swimsuit award and won a special
talent award.
She is a graduate of Westfield
High School and is a senior at the
University of Georgia where she
is majoring in Education.

Science team in district competition
The Peach County High School
Science Bowl team participated in
the District competition on Feb.
13 at Valdosta State College in
Valdosta, Ga. Team members in¬
cluded Jody Hopson, Stephanie
Harvey, Chris Allen, Edith Par¬
rish, Kerry Garrett, Jeffery War¬
ren and Clay Bowden. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Virginia
Dixon and Mrs. Kay Kicklighter
who served as faculty/coaches for
the team.
The students began the competi¬
tion with a comprehensive science
examination, which served to
rank them for the next round of
competition. The second round
included a head-to-head college
bowl style competition against
another team. All levels of com¬
petition involved students answer¬
ing questions in all areas of

Republican party to hold precinct meetings
The Peach County Republican
Party will hold Precinct Meetings,
and the County Convention on
Sat., March 12, 1988 at the Peach
County Courthouse.
Precinct Meetings will begin at
10 a.m. followed by the County
Convention.
Delegates will be elected to the
District Convention in Jackson,
Ga. on April 16, and the State
Science. The Peach County High
School Science Bowl team is a part
of and is sponsored by the PCHS
Science Club.
Convention in Albany on May 21.
Peach County will elect six
delegates and six alternates to
both conventions. If anyone has

Annual steer
and hog show
on Saturday
The annual Peach County
Junior Steer and Market Hog
Show will be held Saturday,
March 5 at the Peach County
Junior Livestock Show Barn.
The 4-H and FFA Livestock
Barn is located across from Cham¬
pion’s on Marshallville Highway.
Both shows will start at 11:00
a.m.
4-H and FFA participants in this
year’s Livestock Show are: Court¬
ney Terhune, Clint Shipman,
Woody Hill, Stephanie Benton,
Billy Joe Lunsford, Chris Brown,
Dayton Cook and Bill Tidwell.
The local show is sponsored by
the Peach County Farm Bureau
Chapter. Jimmy Giles is the 1988
president. The Show Committee
consists of George Hancock -
chairman; Jimmy Giles, Don
Brock and B. M. Fain.
Garden Club
to meet
The Fort Valley Garden Club
will hold their March meeting at
10 a.m. Thursday, March 10 at the
home of Mrs. Avis Lux on E. Main
Street.
There will be an installation of
officers elected to serve during the
1988-89 club year. Mrs. Ellen
Bales, program chairman, will pre¬
sent a special program on
wildflowers.
